Google/Bing...interesting

Google are blogging that Microsoft is using their search results for Bing. The evidence looks pretty damning

Because Google would never copy anyone else, would they? Reading Quadszilla's post about it earlier, it seems Google does exactly the same thing through their toolbar and chrome that Bing has been doing to get those results featured. But no one's really reporting that.

It looks like they have plenty evidence, but somehow i can´t really believe it. My sites have very different places in bing and google search, some of the results are so far from each other that it just don´t make sence to me.

Interesting that Google made this post when as DaveL has pointed out, they do exactly the same kind of data gathering as Bing through there toolbar.

I agree that it is fairly damning evidence, but as far as I know they never claim that the data mining they do through the toolbar or the results presented from the toolbar do not come for Google's own results.

However, Bing claims the results they provide are from their own engine and their own algo.

Google can allow (or disallow) anyone they want to have or not have their results.

The question is, is this truly happening and if so, why does Microsoft think they can do this without first obtaining permission to do so.

Its how things work. Fast and furious! Someone will talk with me about this over drinks :P

Again I did not read allllll the posts lol.. anyway I think bing uses a cross between google and their own interesting little thing that knows where you go so to speak. If anything they favor the same results yahoo has when doing a search. Algos will come and go and ways to market are gonna change. This is that time IMO.
AND! dont you guys forget about yahoo :P remember people thought nintendo was done at one point to. Then they make a simple machine that everyone loves. I see yahoo doing the same but with a algo or some other fun idea.

You could ask the same of Google - they make their money by republishing excerpts from our websites, and then putting adverts on those scraped pages, commercialising our content on their search result page. I've never been asked by Google if they can do this.

Sure, they tell us we can opt-out via Robots TXT, but other places on the web you have to opt-in to get stuff (newsletters for example). Google's business model relies on taking stuff without asking (SERPs, book scanning, local listings, etc.) Maybe Google needs to add disallow bing.com to their robots.txt!

In the first place, does Google "own" their search results? No, they don't. but they never claim they do. But with bing, they are saying that the results came from their own engine.

We can’t say Bing uses the results from Google with only 1-2 result matching in top 10, I must have to say the rest 8-9 results in Bing are totally different from Google. Google must not say this till they get minimum 3-4 results in the Bing for same keyword + related keywords, related keywords are important because if Bing uses results from Google the related keywords must also have some same sites in rankings.

Bing is growing fast and we can’t blame Bing in such case…..

Well I agree with Mark Collier. Bing isn't copying Google.

I wonder if Google will sue of this issue or if they can? I would be a little annoyed if it took ages developing an algorithm for someone just to use for free.

Interesting topic indeed! I guess both search engines is just having the same algo at some query but not in their total algo. Well the best thing to do here is to wait for both SE's explanation regarding this matter and not opposing to bing or Google.
