Lightbulb Is Google Goggle working with you?

    Have you checked Google Goggle?

Is that working for you? For me it is not satisfying. For you?

You can check the Google goggle by searching from google android phone. It is a great way of searching. I have never thought of getting such an experience of visual search(although the results sometimes misleading)

This is pretty interesting. Take a picture with an android powered phone and the picture is used to present search results. For example, take a picture of a book and search results for the book are returned, or take a picture of the golden gate bridge and see search results about that.

Stuffed if I know how it's done.
But using this technology would certainly allow say flash content to be indexed.

That would certainly be of interest - if only to combat site scraping & content theft!

Edit: I do my best thinking in the shower...lol..which I just had.

I thought how this could be done and came up with a few ideas:

    The Book

    • Does goggle use a sophisticated type recognition program?
    • Maybe SLI plays a part too?

    Buildings, Objects with no Words

    • Is Google Earth referenced?
    • Maybe goggle is able to distinguish between materials. EG - wood, steel, fabric..ect
    • Again maybe SLI is used?

In the case of a building, bridge..ect goggle may plot the coordinates. At this stage it would know where the object is.

Maybe it scales the height of the object.

Lets say it can also distinguish the material the structure is made of.

At this point it would have its approx location, height, and material.

In so far as the Eiffel Tower it wouldn't be that hard to figure out given the information.

But what about an neutral object, say a wooden box sitting on your lounge room floor?

I'd be interested to know how goggle would determine what that was and return search results.

If it can, then IMO it's likely that it has the capability to identify the objects material composition.
But that's not enough, is it. So maybe it use SLI combined with a smart way of identifying shapes too.

Which ever way it works, it is certainly very fascinating and also a little scary too.
Especially when you consider the internet as we know it has been around for just a speck in time.

I'd be interest to hear other peoples opinions on this.

    Good thread btw!

    Cheers

    Dave
