Talked to a few of the professional seo consultants. All live in SF or NY. They don't see anything wrong with this but they also almost exclusively work for big corps and offer sem consulting services too.

Pro SEO consultants are just Google Ads guys. And bog corps don't need organic SEO anyways.

Affiliate websites have very little time left before Sundar Pichai zeroes them to the ground.

I am not really surprised after all Google is a company and not a none profit organization. Also keep in mind Google is a public company and basically this is almost what is expected by the Google executives by the shareholders.
