    Default Google SiteMap Warnings

I keep getting warning in Webmasters Tools that

"Some URLs listed in this Sitemap have a high response time. This may indicate a problem with your server or with the content of the page."

I have looked at my sites where this warning appears and they seem to respond fine. Since I have been receiving this warning it seems like pages take longer to be cached.

Any suggestions on how to sesolve this?

    Thanks

Off the top of my head, assuming your site is not hacked - could be that when Googlebot visited those pages, your server or database was "hanging up" - resulting in a slow load time.

As for my site - it s not hacked and i guess if the above is the case then nothing can be done re it . I am on shared hosting and looking to move the site to a better server in due course.

It is weird though that it is just 3 pages and they are not image heavy or anything like that.

Have you tried doing a 'fetch as googlebot' request in GWT to see what it brings back. It's under 'crawl' -> ' fetch as google'. Once retrieved then click the 'success' link in the 'fetch status column' and it'll give you some data (including the time it took to download the page).

Should tell you if google's having problems accessing the page or if it was a temporary glitch.

If it fetched successfully then it'll always give details. You have to click on the link though to see it - it's in the column for @fetch Status' next to the green tick. Click the word 'Success' and you'll get a page with info like this (one I literally just did now):

    Fetch as Google

This is how Googlebot fetched the page.

Date: Monday, August 5, 2013 at 10:58:05 AM PDT
    Googlebot Type: Web
    Download Time (in milliseconds): 494

    And then what google saw...

What you may or may not be thinking about is this scenario.

If most of your pages load fine, but a few have problems, one issue "could" be is that on that page, a banner might have banner code that pulls an image or link from a different server and there could be a slow-down on the server serving that banner or link causing the page load delay.

If it causes the page to not finish loading, or at least slow it down past what that bot might think is reasonable, that could cause the timing error.

Even if those page(s) do not include banner code from a different server, you might have the slow code in navigation or in the template somewhere (even in rotation) that happened to be parsed when the bot hit that page.

I am not sure if this could be the case, but offering up one scenario that should be in the list of considerations.

Thanks guys, so what is a good time? This particular page took 4104 milliseconds. Is that high? I ran the page through W3C as well and fixed the errors hoping that may help as well.

Actually after doing so it dropped to 484 milliseconds so I think that may have worked!

Yes, that is a nice increase in speed. That is almost 9 times faster.

The page was probably hanging on an open table tag or something similar.

Sometimes page speed can also be attributed to banners and other images that do not have their sizes defined.

No matter what it was congrats on that as it is a respectable amount.
