    Default GPWA Conference Update

    Hi everyone:

Well, we passed 100 registered attendees a few days ago.

So there are going to be lots of folks to meet and great networking.

We've also added more detail about the conference sessions. They are all the same as what we posted before, but there are now more detailed descriptions available on the web. Just visit www.gpwa-conference-2006.com/agenda.html.

And for those of you who like to eat, besides all the food we'll be serving at the Tuesday night reception, at the conference on Wednesday we have a continental breakfast with a bunch of extras, a good lunch, and an afternoon ice cream and drinks break.

And we've also got a nice canvas conference bag with a bunch of goodies inside (everyone likes goodies). Plus we've put together a great GPWA member portal site directory we'll be giving out.

I look forward to seeing all of you who are able to attend at the conference.

it seems like many affiliate programs are canceling. i would like to get an idea of exactly how muhc of the shows will go on, and how much is getting cancelled. after the most recent events things seem crazy this morning.

anyone with more info please post if for the rest of us. as of now, we are planning on still going. i am waiting on the overall stance before making an final decisions. hope to see you all soon...

michael, have you got any info for us? thanks in advance for the heads up

Right now it does not appear that recent events will have much effect on the core of the GPWA conference. There are some affiliate reps whose legal counsel is advising them not come, but our conference is primarily portal webmaster driven rather than affiliate program driven, so the issues are muted for us. There is only one session at the conference - a panel session - that will be effected at all in terms of speakers being available. So things are virtually unchanged.

The recent actions were taken by the state of Louisiana, and would not be applicable to webmasters. Casino City, Inc. is specifically incorporated in Louisiana because the same statute that makes online gambling illegal in that state also specifically excempts advertisers as being considered gambling operators (unless they actually operate online gambling sites also). Thus the Louisiana statutes could not be used to go after portal webmasters. Personally, I also think there isn't really any risks for affiliate reps unless they are also part of the upper management of a sportsbook site.
