Lightbulb GPWA Now Publishes Affiliate Program Chirpstreams

Everyone has heard the hype about twitter. Today I'm pleased to announce that at the GPWA the hype isn't just hype anymore. We just rolled out the first of a number of projects that will bring twitter into the mainsteam at the GPWA.

Over the past several months we have been planning and building features centered around twitter. We started with a back-end system that harvests tweets, saves them in a database, and ties them together with information we have about those doing the tweeting. So now when an affiliate program tweets some information for their affiliates we keep the tweet and associate the tweet in our database with the affiliate program making the tweet.

On the GPWA home page we now display a chirpstream of recent affiliate program tweets, and we have an archive of past tweets by GPWA sponsor affiliate programs linked to off the home page and also from a new item in our top navigation under affiliate programs named tweets. And of course we also display recent tweets by a sponsor program on their sponsor page together with a link to their past history of tweets.

The project has just gotten underway so we only have twitter accounts for about 20 affiliate programs associated with the corresponding program right now. But we'll be adding more as we find them, and as folks let us know about affiliate programs that have twitter accounts for affiliate-related tweets we're missing. The system we have in place gathers the complete history of tweets for new twitter accounts when they are added so we expect to soon have a comprehensive chirpstream archive that includes all tweets made by any affiliate program.

We'll also be building other chirpstreams. One example will be tweets for online gaming sites associated with sponsor programs so you will be able to see them all in one place, without doing any work yourself. Same thing for GPWA webmasters who have twitter accounts and would like their tweets to be published in a collection of GPWA webmaster tweets. Of course, if you want to maintain your own set of twitter accounts that you follow you can certainly do that using twitter directly, and we will faciliate you in that effort by providing details of existing published twitter accounts related to iGaming conveniently organized in one place.

And if you happen to be an affiliate program that has been tweeting, and we don't currently show your tweets (or even if you aren't an affiliate program but know of one we are missing), just send a pm to cityguard with the twitter account name, or post the twitter account name in this thread, and we'll be sure to add it right away.

This is great news Michael! Kudos to the GPWA for doing this. I'll be sure to check it out soon and provide any feedback if necessary. Good job.

Right now I think it is at least hourly. But after we have done some additional development work on the backend infrastructure we should be able to push it down to every minute or so. Possibly even more frequently if we become whitelisted for a greater frequency of queries. The times shown are since the original tweet, not since the time the tweet was collected by us, and it is common to observe times within the last hour when tweets are first added.

Twitter basically has two external access modes for applications like ours. The whitelisted mode allows 20,000 queries per hour and otherwise there is a limit from a single account of something like 150 queries per hour. In our present mode of operation we can check on 150 twitter accounts in an hour. Switching to managing lists of twitter accounts we could check up to 500 accounts we placed on on a single list twice a minute. If we are whitelisted then we could do everything we could possibly want every few seconds. We do expect to eventually be monitoring many thousands of twitter accounts. Besides what we are doing for the GPWA here, we will eventually monitor twitter accounts (when we can find them) of 3,000 online gaming sites, 5,000 land-based gaming sites, 1,000 igaming suppliers, and 10,000 land-based gaming suppliers. Plus any tweets with keywords we view as related to gaming.

In the land-based gaming arena a lot of casino-hotels use twitter to do things like broadcast last minute specials to help fill rooms. We think it will be pretty interesting to gather those together by geographic area from a player perspective (e.g., all the Las Vegas casino tweets).

This is terrific Michael, great work as usual.

The timing actually couldn't be much better as we're launching our IGNITION promotion tomorrow via @pdcaffiliates. The stream has been active for months but this is our first incentivized Twitter campaign (to go along with the player and affiliate referral components of IGNITION).

Affiliates, if you haven't checked out @pdcaffiliates or our IGNITION promotion, please do - thousands of new players are flooding to our network starting April 15th! You can PM me for details our check out our site.

    Thanks again Michael.

    Cheers,

Congrats to GPWA for this new feature. I will of course love to bring my tweeter account in the collection of the gpwa webmasters twitter accounts as soon as that works.

    Great news!

We'll send you some more details shortly for the Twitter Accounts of some of the affiliate programs that we manage.

As an aside, it's the first time I've heard the term "chirpstream". Love it!

Two more accounts to add: WinADayCasino and Slotland - They are casino accounts though, or do I need to make a Slotland Affiliates account for twitter too?

We will want to associate twitter accounts with content targeted to players with their associated online casinos, but that is a separate project. At the present time our focus is on affiliate program twitter accounts that have a target audience of affiliates.

Thanks for the positive feedback, and also for the twitter account names.

We had managed to find and include pdcaffiliates and fanduelaffs at the time of launch on our own (along with about 18 others).

But we've now also added offsidebet, EarnUnited, and SlotlandAff thanks to the feedback in this thread.

Keep those affiliate program twitter accounts coming!

Is there a possibility of having all the tweets of the affiliate programs bundled together under a tweeter accoount, like e.g. gpwa_affiliateprograms, which one can then follow?
