Guest blogging to build inbound links

One of the SEO topics I've seen discussed regularly discussed in the GPWA forums is how to get inbound links. Ken Lyons examines using guest blogging for that purpose in a fairly interesting piece on All Business. He points out that guest blogging can be a good way to build inbound links, but you need to be aware of a few things before you begin the process. What do you think about what he has to say?

I have found that this works if your site has to do with "how to make money blogging", or anything that doesn't have to do with gambling. In fact I had written a few articles, where a certain blog was supposed to publish them, but as soon as the sponsors found out they are going to be linking to an affiliate website, they refused.

Haven't seen many affiliate website offering guest posting, but there could be some out there. Anyways on theory it will work well, as you are getting an article, with your link above or below it. On top of that, that article will build age and audience for sure as it has exposure.

However you are giving good quality content in an exchange of a link. You have to decide for yourself which is more important. I personally can't live with my content on someone else's website. I prefer having the huge amount of content, and I will find the way to build links.

Well not just the "make money online" but a host of other niches too. Gambling is always a grey area but it depends on the kind of site you are targeting. It's a give and take. One needs to weigh the pros and cons of it. In content link especially from an authority site can definitely help boost the rankings.

I wonder if any of the affiliates ever tried writing for EGR or Calvinayre.com and if they managed to get their articles published.

I have someone producing content who works on a number of sites and I have agreed to accept guest posts occasionally - I get high quality free content in return for a contextual link. However, I think accepting submissions from other sites would be too much hassle as I want consistent style and quality.

I have 2 bingo articles on my site which are more of a guest post. A site owner approached me about it and we made it into a 2-part interview. Since my blog deals with tips on betting (I mainly focus on sports betting) and I don't promote any bingo sites, it is was a perfect fit.

That being said, I wouldn't necessarily not post someone's article because they are also an affiliate. Though that would be part of a decision, there is more to the equation than that.

Guest blogging also an effective way to drive traffic. It really helps, if it contains good, interesting topics and informative content that will catch the attention of some readers.

Is the relationship between the content and the link very important or is it enough if the link is loosely based on the content of the article.

That would work. By making the blog about technology instead of gambling, you will be able to actually build links to the blog too. Other bloggers will be willing to link to it.

An even better strategy would be to buy an existing blog that is already established with traffic and links. You can then crowbar in your links and continue to run the new site using a paid blogger/writer.

The closer the content is to in relationship to the link, the better the link will be. Having the a link to your casino site in an article about submitting articles to article directories isn't going to do as much as a link to your site in an article about casino platform software. Besides, how much targeted traffic will you get from a link about technology? What is the likelihood of the visitor on the technology blog will be interested in online casinos?

The idea of guest blogging isn't only for link building, but to build your brand and set yourself up as an authority while increasing traffic. If you have a guest post on a popular blog in your niche, you should be able to expect a good bit of traffic and exposure from that one blog post.

Articles about technology and getting other tech related sites to link back to those articles, and then have the outgoing links on that blog point to gambling portals will not get many points for relevancy....

I'm starting to get into this now. I have a great journalist/copywriter on hand who can put together some very compelling gaming articles, from experience these often pick up trackbacks too, the more controversial ones that is - thebingofinder.co.uk/articles

It's pretty new to me but i was hoping that someone could possibly help me in identifying some gaming related blogs that i can build a long term relationship with. I'm not really looking for one offs, i'd much prefer to have a longstanding relationship with the webmaster, this helps us in establishing the right tone and for the webmaster to get the best possible work out of us.

This section and thread is discussing the mechanics behind guest blogging as well as benefits, tips, tricks etc and not for the actual solicitation of said methods.

To set up some deals etc, whether long term or not it is best to start a thread explaining the kinds of relationships you would like to build with guest bloggers etc in the link exchange section.

Try to be specific in what you are looking for and how respondents should contact you and I am sure you will get some responses.
