HAHAHA! Reminds me of the time I tried Viagra, the pill got stuck in my throat and my tonsils were hard FOR A WEEK!

that's funny, but in all seriousness I remember people telling me that swallowing gum WAS bad for you but I never understood the reasoning?
Mark
From what i remember, swallowing gum is bad for your digestive system because it takes literally years for your system to digest it. It stays stuck to the inside of your stomach walls and makes your acid production high trying to dissolve it.
Could cause acid reflux, ulcers, and other ailments over years of to much acid in the stomach.

After some mayor encouraged people to swallow their gum in order to keep it off the sidewalks, a GI doctor went on tv and told people it was a bad idea. That if you were to swallow a lot of gum, you might eventually get a big enough wad to obstruct your colon, requiring surgery.
I imagine that the risk is low, but the cost/danger it happening makes a trashcan a better idea.
love the photo
I let myself get distracted by this and found a detailed article explaining the 7-years-to-digest myth along with other health information about chewing gum.

I have been told by 2 doctors that the 7 year to digest gum thing is a load of bullshit, an urban myth that parents told to their kids so they wouldn't swallow their gum.
The gum passes through exactly the same way as everything else, it just doesn't get digested, much like corn and it definitely doesn't stick to anything. Our bodies can't digest corn, so use your imagination there..
And a source I found: http://www.snopes.com/oldwives/chewgum.asp

Hey Everyone, it looks like this thread is now #5 on Google for "why swallowing gum is bad for you". I wonder how we can monetize that? LOL
