Default Starting a White label or an Affiliate site

    Hello.
We are small company, no previous experience in Igaming and we are looking to invest in this field.
I've started talking with platform providers and learn about their solutions.
Also I've read previous threads regarding white labels.
My question is, is it worth to start a WL or an affiliate site in 2024?
What would be a realistic monthly budget for a market like India, for example?
    Thank you !

Suggest against white label for many reasons.

A white label means you are acting in the capacity of an operator and immediately places more scrutiny on regulatory issues. Doesn't matter if the "top level" provider has a license in the jurisdiction or not, it places the burden directly on you.

Also as a white label you will almost certainly be restricted to the brand or brands of the provider.

There are many more caveats that could place additional restrictions on what you can and can not do with a white label such as a much much much larger initial investment.

Thank you for your time and answer, Rick.
So what would be, in your opinion, a healthy approach for this niche as a "startup".

I recommend starting with affiliate programs before jumping to a more complex level.

Since you don't have previous experience within the iGaming industry, my recommendation is to start as an affiliate, learn and improve.

Later down the road, you can go with WL - when you get more experience.

Depends on the provider of the label and your main geo. I would not even bother considering a white label in the UK these days.

Disclaimer: I have 0 experience running / working with WL casinos / sportsbooks.

Now with the above out of the way I guess the regulatory issues you might face would be radically different depending on the GEO.
You mentioned India and I believe India doesn't currently have any centralized regulatory bodies that would work across all states.

You might have a similar situation is a lot of African countries. Where licensing is relatively affordable.

As for the general question WL casino vs. affiliate website. I think those would be quite different in terms of what you do and how you do it, so the only real overlap is that it relates to the same industry.

With an affiliate website you'd need a way smaller investment to start.

Thank you all for your replies.
I wanted to know if a WL will be a too big of a hat for us, as we don't have igaming experience.
I've read that most people in this business started as affiliates and after that started their own platform.

Disagree with this, most affiliates, are still affiliates.

In fact, I have met a number of affiliates over the years that did in fact later open white labels, and closed them, sticking with their affiliate sites.

With no experience in the field, I would go for an affiliate site. No doubt.

Having a white label means dealing with lots of details, rules, and updates that are hard to keep up with, especially if you are not familiar. My recommendation would be to start an affiliate site, learn a lot, do all the networking you possibly can, and after that, decide if you want to go for a white label or continue growing as an affiliate.

the price you see is never the price you pay, and then ongoing costs it works out pretty exspensive pretty quickly. I would only advise doing a whitelabel if you don't mind losing the money there are so many hidden costs.

Just out of the blue: everyone is mention costs, and the staff, and the marketing and regulation and blablabla.
That all wouldnt concern me just a little, but you have to pay the winners!

Worse than that are the scammers, scammer affiliates wanting CPA for fraud traffic and scammer players some which work in syndicate groups ran by gangs which can rack up hundreds of thousands of wins very quickly by bonus absuing

In most cases (can only speak for UK providers) you do not pay the players, you do not need a bankroll for players. The white label pays them and you end up with a balance at the end of the month, either positive or negative.

As a 3+ years of experience in i gaming niche my best suggestion for you is to start with affiliate and side by side run your own white label platform.
affiliate casino benefits: lower cost, lower risk, and easier to test traffic before owning operations.
White label is better later when you want your own brand, player database, payments, bonus engine, and full casino control, but compliance risk is higher.

Disagree that white label is better (ever).

Correct that compliance is often a HUGE compliance problem since depending on what the regulations are in the geo where the players come from, and sometimes even where the site is hosted can be an almost immediate headache.

Thanks, Rick. That's a fair point. Compliance requirements can vary significantly depending on the target market and hosting location. It's something we regularly see operators navigate.

I'd recommend starting out as an affiliate - then making the transition to a white-label a few years later, once you've mastered the art of driving traffic profitably to your site. The affiliate model is far lower risk model for beginners
