Honest review needed- Company needs to hear outside opinion

Hello everyone,

Please take a glance at this site (Supposed to be a sports betting site) http://www.freebets.com.au/ and give a brief (or long) and honest review.

I know this is the internet so when I say be honest I mean be brutal. Please no sugar coating, I need some changes made to help with the user experience but the higher ups won't budge based on my opinions.

Thanks for the comments so far everyone - remember to give it both barrels if theres something small or big that you don't like.

Comments on navigation or things which we are missing will be much appreciated.

I will be happy to give my opinion on your site or help out with anything similar that you guys need in the future.

1) I would add h1 to the top of the main page.
2) Dont do internal links in h3 or other h tags (I find the example at bonus-bets page - h3)
3) Some of your pages dont have internal links to some other articles. Example - luxbet-review/, also at this page you have one banner without a ref link (bet365/ the same problem with banner)

Great domain name, the best you could get for Australia. Therefore I feel it deserves a makeover, full professional look a la freebets.co.uk etc etc. It looks 'ok' but my honest opinion is that it would be better having a pro developer really spend some time on it and spruce it up.
In the absence of a decent budget I would definitely at least look at a new, more professional logo, I also found the colour scheme a bit muted and pastelly. Overall, just seems to need a bit more wow factor to go with the great domain.

One thing I really don't like (as small as it may seem) is the "Welcome to our site" text on the home page. That always seems a bit childish to me. Almost like the "we are a young and creative team" message that you see so often on the about page on websites that are just starting out. Who cares? The visitor has already found you, he just needs to find out within 1 or 2 seconds if your site can provide the information that he / she is looking for. I would prefer if you would explain in the first sentence why the visitor has made the right choice to visit your website.

Thank you very much Jim. That is exactly what I am looking for. I know the site looks so plain Jane it's almost a blank page. So your input is much appreciated!. I'm basically going to bring these comments up the next time I am talking to the "higher ups" so anything that comes to mind when you look at the site is great.

Your site should be responsive.. i see you have WordPress as cms.. this will help you a lot, there are many plugins that can help you, just google 'responsive plugin' and test them on your theme.

Design of the site aside, the owners should do some research and/or get some legal advice given the recent fine handed out to Bet365 for advertising "free bets" that aren't exactly free (just like everyone else on your site).

* I like the site and the clean layout. I understand regarding the "something" missing comment above. Maybe images related to the new on the right or a change of background can do the job.

*Linking: I think there needs to be match more links within the text. Obviously it's easier when you have more content, but people won't usually read the whole thing and jump to whatever interests them (now most of it is some type of bookmaker review) while other content will keep them on the site.
I think the videos should be centered within the text (and not aligned left) - those are really nice!

*Images on the review should link to the casino or no link at all (no reason reason to have the image link itself - xxhttp://www.freebets.com.au/files/2015/07/william-hill-promo.png). Btw, make sure that you don't index those image pages separately - with Yoast there is a simple option to do that. Maybe with All in one seo as well.

*I would use php or some other type of affiliate link redirect and not the original link itself. We will have many pages and if they don't go through the same link it will become impossible to update for a new promo or just if you wish to take them off.

*You should also consider that some links, mainly the ones with ads in the url get blocked when opened in a new tab.

*On specific bookie review - you still have on the right the "read review" button, which is not needed. Worth taking it out and leaving just the Claim now button. Maybe worth adding another button at the bottom of the text.

*Adding some screenshots on the review pages will help break the content.

*Header tags: notice that on the whole site the H1 tag is Free Bets/Free Bets. You should change that and also I think it's better to have a dedicated h1 tag for each page that describes what's actually there.

*last, add contact/about us page.
