Since it begins to be an unclear situation about the legality of hosting in the Us I'm trying to find good locations for my hosting outside the Us. Do anybody have any insights into the legal situation in Canada and other countries and maybe even good suggestions for good providers?

Since the UK dosn't have any problems with Gambling, you could try there. I use a company called xhttp://www.easily.co.uk. I find the rates very resonable and customer support is excellent.

I'm resident in the UK and have a few hosting deals here, but I've got a bulk hosting deal with Oxeo in New York. I get really good reliable service from them and I'm reluctant to move until some firm decision is made. I suspect that as they have no direct interest in the profits of gambling, and my casino portals are a small percentage of my total hosting, I'm going to get a bit of notice before I need to do anything.

Much more complex is the situation of domain names. I've some gambling specific sites with .com names, but they are registered through a chinese registrar. I wonder what the gov. will make of that, and whether they will attack Verisign as part of their jihad. Maybe it's time for a non-american tld - .casino perhaps.

Don't worry about .com domains. The com stands for commercial and the U.S. does not have a monopoly on it.

It's not the monopoly situation, it's the control. We've already seen what Verisign can do to abuse their position of trust. Visa are also doing their best to get the dollar removed from it's dominant position on the net. Maybe some government official with a virility crisis will see this as a change to make his mark.

I'm very satisfied with my hosting today, the problem still is the legal situation. Also I've discovered one other thing. Even if a web hosting company is based in Europe they in some cases have their servers in the US.

Thank you for your link. Anybody from Canada know anything about the legal status of hosting gambling sites in Canada?
