How do these garbage sites rank so high for big keywords?

Does anybody else notice the growing number of garbage sites ranking high for major keywords ?

Seems like I do a search and blogs with nothing to do with online gambling are ranking higher than sites dedicated to the subject.

They have 1 or 2 pages about gambling online.

Clearly it has little to do with the onsite SEO for the blogs pages.
So that really just leaves link profile / social network +1 stuffing.

the old tricks seem to work again, hack non gambling sites and interlink them, put content stolen from affiliate sites on it with a scraper tool and feed the visitor a custom injected landing page.

and because he has your unique content and from others he will automatically rank higher, great for weeding out the competition!

This is not only about tricks.
They show garbage on first pages, just to force legitimate and quality sites to buy ads.

Yep the garbage black hat stuff is still ranking highly in a few of my niches. Google is such a disappointment. they tell you to follow the rules and then sites like that just slip through the net and rank top. I agree it's also in Google's interests to generally screw over 'good' affiliate sites and make us pay for Adwords.

Sorry RacingJim, but I do not agree. Google might be losing the game, as they are few steps behind all the time, but it is not good approach toblame others. Either Jews, Negroes, Google or Blackhatters. No one can expect things will work as they did. Game is constantly changing. I know this might be offensive, but simply people who will stop whinging and look for "unfair" compatition backlink profile and simply copy and improve what they do.

It is a virus. I am from excommunist country and maybe 90% of older people of my nation love communists. Not because they think they were great, but because communists are the one who caused their miseries and put obstacles between them and real life. One person could not study what she wanted, another guy could not play football because of communists, other guys would be great scientists, only if communists allowed them to travel etc.

Google is just and algo, if one says it is broken, then good for you. You certainly know where is broken. So take the advantage of it and compete untill Matt Cuts grabs your balls and then lick your wounds.

I would like to say, I do NOT think that Sherlock was trying to add any racism into his statement.

I think he was trying to make a point that generalizing black hat is just as bad as generalizing a person's culture or ethnicity as being wrong.

I do not exactly agree with that thinking, but I did get his point. Personally, in my opinion, many of the black hat methods in use today are unethical, and therefore wrong, but I do defend his right to his opinion.

I am very sensitive to comments like that. My ancestors were in concentration camps and fought in WW2. I thought Sherlock was am intellegent person, not someone to make a FULL judgement on someone based on race or religion, given it is for goodness and peace. Perhaps I was caught off guard by the words and jumped, I hope that is the case.

It still surprises me that Google doesn't have a rule in its algorithm about 1-2 page sites.

It is very rare that a 1-2 page site offers great value to anybody and yet there are so many of them dominating search results right now in various gambling niches. It seems like such an easy thing to clamp down on that I just have to suggest that Google doesn't really give a crap.

That's right! It is really strange that they talk about the quality content and all the "smart stories" and then you see garbage on the first search page, with sites of few pages, half of them empty or with text that is hard to understand.
I really do not understand that.
So is this all talking about quality, etc. from search engines - is this bull sh..... ??
Many quality sites are vanishing from the net. Whatever they do, they are displayed always on the secondary search pages.
... and you cannot add link, you cannot guest posts, you cannot this and that...
and some people that doing great job on the net, are simply getting enough one day and give up!
Garbage will survive because they do nothing, no SEO, no fresh content, no every-day maintaining.

I have been thinking just the opposite, that I have been seeing less junk sites out there. It seemed really bad there a few months ago but I personally do not see as many. Those that did jump up in the rankings fell quickly.

Just out of curiosity what are the keywords you guys are seeing so many garbage sites with.

I pity those who worked hard for their site to be well optimized, following the rules and guidelines as per google yet hit hard by the update.
