Default How important is Google PR?

Every established web site has it. Every new site wants it. Many sites won't link to you if you don't have it.

The question I have is "how important is Google PR?"

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Dave

Don't think it's important anymore. Searching on internet you can find some interesting articles about it, like this one:

The last update finally confirmed googles LACK of value

My new pages I added to my sites jumped to PR4 or PR5 and older, more established pages stayed at PR3, PR4.

Sites that had no PR for 2 years now have PR5.

My links pages that I added to a site are now PR5 with no content. The content pages rank no higher than a PR3.

Want value? Uninstall the google toolbar. I just have. I checked the links, decided it was bad karma to check the toolbar anymore, and now I float happily along.
    Have a wonderful day

My main site has over 350 pages of content but it only ranks a PR3, I finished another site a month or so ago and although its also got orginal content it's small in comparision. That got a PR6 straight up. Now if that's not screwy I don't know what is.

I'm going back to Networking all my sites. Content is the key here. The more of it and the more original it is I think the greater chance you have of gaining top 10 rankings. As far as my link pages I'm not taking any more recip exchanges.

IMO the whole net is coming down to that funnel affect. Build a number of good quality sites and use these as catchements. Don't overdo aff links just provide information. You can easierly draw punters to the cash cow, we do it every day now by getting punters to signup. I feel we just need to change our way of thinking...

Then again I could be full of sh^t.

PS I wanted to add. Take a look at dmoz although I know a number of older sites are listed here, to try and gain a listing today is next to impossible. Is dmoz as highly regarded as it once was? I personally doubt it. Now I'm goingb to sound synical, sorry, but like everything that is good on the net spammers have imo been the downfall of dmoz too.

The same here my main site that I work on it all the time and I do a link exchange droped to Pr 2 ? I have an other site with 11 pages only the PR whent up but I dont provide link exchange on this site. So now I don't echange links, in a way I'm glad this is over with, I'm sick and tired of all the link echange emails I get, is a lot of work and takes time that we can use to improve our sites.

I actually think PR IS important. Now, I am no SEO expert by any means... but I've been doing a lot of research. My site currently has about 160 pages of content and I was growing it every day... but for the last month I've stopped. The reason I put a halt to content is so I could focus on SEO, specifically link exchanges and key word refinements. Since doing link exchanges my PR has jumped from 0 to 2 (site has been online roughly 3 months). Some pages show 0 PR, some show 1, some show 2 (kinda odd). Before link exchanges, I had no PR.

As to why I think it's important... before I got PR I received almost no traffic from Google. Now my traffic from Google has jumped about 4 times higher. I'm not saying it's a lot... especially since my traffic is still thin... but it's a start and seems to go hand in hand with my PR. Also, I have a former co-worker also in the online casino biz and has a PR of 5 and gets a ton of traffic! So, I believe PR is going to help your traffic. Just my opinion though. It defitniely won't hurt it.

In my view PR is only important to google... It defently improoves your ranking under certain keywords and the higher your pagerank the more often google is visiting your sites...

I also think pagerank becomes only interesting from PR5 up... If you got a PR5 site any changes you make on your site will be taking effect in google within appr. 3 days....

The last PR update got me with a pretty new site (http://www.high-roller-forum.com) a PR4, Homepage and almost all other pages eccept one or two... Thats a jump from 0 to 4....

Interesting is that like I sayd the site is pretty new, got only 7 .htm pages where 5 jumped from 0 to 4, one from 0 to 3 and one stayed 0..... there are also several php pages what are changed to html pages via mod rewrite... they are all stayed at 0... all pages are in the root folder(html or www folder depending on your server) the weird thing is that the sites are all listed in google but no cache is available.... I checked the PR with several tools and its not mirrored!

The thing what got me with this jump was that I only linked from about 5 PR3 pages and one PR5 domain to this domain.... The PR5 domain has nothing to do with gambling at all, is not even in english... a plain Adult site in german...
But this PR5 adult domain i got me for a few bucks on ebay lost his PR5 completely.. its since the last update a PR0.... so now try to understand PR and google...

I had another case of a domain I got what had suddenly a PR 7, but after investigating this I found out this was only a mirrored PR... This was happen because I redirected this domain permanently to a PR7 site.... So this PR got picked up but was worthless... The next PR update this domain was back to normal...

One thing for shure, up to a PR5 its not really important what for a PR you got... from a PR5 up it really gets interesting... here you got the opportunity to play around with your site, changing keywords and stuff and got almost an immidiatly result in your listings on google... insteadt of waiting for months...

    Good Luck

Default I noticed more traffic from PR0 to PR3

My nich keywords originally didn't even show up on google radar, but once I got PR3.. my keyword phrases appreared on page 9. .. Cause or effect?
Anyway.. I still think higher PR is helpful. Good luck!
