Betarades, this was and is not purely an exercise to try and improve google ranking. As I thought I made clear in the very first video, this is to follow best practice. This is why more and more sites are using SSL.

The videos were produced to document the near complete loss of google traffic after initially configuring the site with the SSL cert.

I'm unable to watch your youtube videos because my laptop will heat up and switch off.

So, did this help your rankings in the end?

I´ve done many studies about https and i see almost no correlation between https and ranking in serps. However its only done for Finnish market where i work so i don't know about other markets. Google´s algorithm varies really much from market to market even between keywords in the same market.

Anuyhow i think there is much bigger variables where to concentre.

Awesome information - i just dont get the difference for SSL and non SSL sites.
I think it serp depends on the website itself not on the SSL Certificate

personally I think its a positive sign to google - why wouldn't it be. Weather you 'need' it is a different matter - but its certainly not going to harm, only improve the trust signals for google.

While making sure all http to https links are updated for your site, dont forget to add this to your .htaccess file, if you have access and feel comfortable with it. It will auto redirect any none http to https . Also could other bits I always do - redirect none www to www version of domain and also add trailing slashes.

All just personal pref to keep clean and consistent across site. Just my two penneth

    # #none http to https
    RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]

    # Redirect non www to www

    # Redirect Trailing Slashes If Not A Folder...
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule ^(.*)/$ /$1 [L,R=301]
