Default Casino Niche More Prevalent to Attack via Negative SEO

With the spam filter turned up to the max and sites like Dan Thies SEO Fast Start & SEERSTART.COM have seen the wrath of over optimization and are getting hammered to the bits for their attacks by competitors trying to prove to google that their latest update is destroying innocent businesses.

So being in the gambling niche do you think that neg-seo is going to be more prevalent in our industry?

I think it's unquestionable that the gambling niche is getting hammered by recent google updates, but i also think that this is a niche that probably deserves to be hammered. Google's primary objective is to - at least should be - provide the most useful and relevant results. There are a huge quantity of sites in this field that may be relevant, but aren't useful. They provide no information that isn't covered elsewhere better and more importantly, often the recommendations regarding which program a player should play with are actually based on which program is more attractive to the affiliate rather than the player - that reasoning is useful to the site owner but not necessarily the reader and as such goes against the principles a good search engine would employ.

you could always do negative SEO to harm another site, very easily done as well. it seems that it is the lastest buzz word at the minute and the more people bang on about it the more the chances are that people will hear about it and try it

With the mention of over optomization in the OP i was thinking more down the line of penelties than specifically targetted negative SEO by competitors. Googles updates are going to contineously adversely affect many affiliates and you're always going to find people who'd rather damage their competitors to move up than put in the hard work to achieve results themselves. So while i do think this is more of an issue in the gambling niche, in many respects i see negative SEO as the 'terrorist attack' of the online world; it's out there and is happening, but it's not nearly as big an issue as the media would have you believe.

This is definitely not good news since affiliate marketing is difficult as it is, and Google forever penalizing our sites let alone negative seo. Marketing online casinos has just become a whole lot tougher! Just hope G can pick up on this in some way or the other.

Overoptimization is heavily done and since most webmasters dont allow gambling links it would make sense to see sites penalized due to their links being on crappy low quality splogs.

I think it will be very easy to kill the competitor in any niche, but in our niche it will be more easier.

An internet world is changing not in the good direction...

PS: If we have a poll like this now, it actually means a lot.

Unfortunately, the financial stakes are so high that Negative SEO in the online gambling industry is inevitable.

If Google allows neg-seo to happen, we can expect more spam on the internet. Instead of doing seo on our own site, SEO's will be performing neg-seo on those sites ranking above them.

Negative SEO is nothing new, especially in the gambling nitch.

Anyone remember all those hacked wordpress blogs from about 18 months ago? Those hacked blogs were being used for negative SEO.

My site was under attack for over six months from those hacked blogs. The hackers would hack a blog and then add hidden links/text, bad redirects and just about anything they thought would hurt my site in google's eyes. The negitive SEO worked for a short time, then google did some tweaks and it all went away...

Google is very aware of SEO attacks on sites, I imagine there are some googler's just waiting for someone to start a negative SEO campaign against a site.

Tip: you can use always Google alert and other back-links monitors to be advised if strange activities occurs in your link profile. Also with the help of Google disavow tool, you can reject the offensive links.

This really sucks... I'm not sure why Google is validating a spam war like that. Sounds really bad to me that webmasters can see so much work and hours spent building / maintaining a site ruined by some **** spammer.
