Keyword Targeting
Hi everyone,
I'm a new affiliate and I've just created a brand new website: http://www.footballbetprofit.com
I just have a quick question about keyword targeting.
I know that for a new site like mine I should be looking for long tail search terms, but what exactly would you consider to be a long tail search term in the sportsbook market?
Thanks in advance for any help

Hi Aidan, I'm a newbie myself and am also interested in this topic. I've been doing loads of reading on how to write good optimised content, and I've been writing up a few articles ahead of my website going live. I've been targeting phrases such as "Premier League Betting", "Premier League Tips", "Premier League Bet Stats"...etc. Whilst these are quite focused, I'd imagine they are competitive enough to rank for.
I've been using Google Trends to try and gauge the popularity of certain search terms but the unit of measurement seems to be on a relative scale of 1 to 100, which is confusing me slightly. I'd just love to know how many people searched for a particular term on a given date or time frame. Does anyone know of a good tool that will provide such data?
Not sure if any of this is even relevant to what you were asking, but here are some links to good articles I have read recently on content writing, hope it is of some help...

Thanks PremShip, that's really helpful.
So far I'm targeting things like "champions league betting tips" and "bet victor free bet" but being new to this I have no idea if these are too long tail to bring in traffic or too competitive to stand a chance of ranking for.
For example, is it a waste of time for a new site with no organic traffic like mine to target "free bet bonus" or "best free bets"?

I'd imagine "free bet bonus" and "best free bets" are pretty difficult to rank for, especially as a new site with little authority. It might be an idea to include an extensive Bet Victor review so you might start ranking for Bet Victor related searches.
Having looked at your own site I think you have a solid foundation to build on. It could maybe do with a lot more written content. I like your Champions League article that you have just added, but you could probably beef up the wording, and maybe include some internal linking to other articles.
I’ve been writing some static type articles which are not relevant just to a particular match or game week, and as such will not date. These are more general type betting articles, for example you might want to write an article on how to pick the perfect accumulator. I have been spending a lot of time getting the wording on these articles spot on, and including keywords where possible, in the hope to give them the best possible chance of ranking. I will then link to these articles from other more transient posts within my site, and also share them through social media. This might be the best chance you have of ranking a page early on in your business, and these articles themselves should contain internal links, which will decrease the bounce rate on your site and improve overall user experience, hence improving your ranking further. If this page gains authority then you can use it to pass on the “link juice” to some of the other relevant pages within your site.
Disclaimer: This advice is that of a fledgling newbie and all SEO related information might be coming directly out of my ass.

Write content for your readers not for search engines. Otherwise your going to be putting out bad content and people simply won't be coming back.
I wouldn't even worry about search engines yet, join social media, share your content on twitter and facebook, engage your new followers and worry about google further down the line

@PremShip
I rate the advice of a so called 'fledgling newbie' more than someone who's being doing it for years as I can tell you understand the position I'm in!
I definitely need to beef up my review pages as only a few of them are up to scratch so far.
I agree that static type articles which are not relevant just to a particular match or game week are a great idea. I've got one of these so far at: http://www.footballbetprofit.com/winning-accumulators-tips/ but definitely need more!
When your site is up and running I'd love to take a look, it sounds great.
@ JackTenSuited
I agree that the content needs to be aimed at the readers more than google but I thought it can't harm to have google rankings in mind from the start.
Social media's working pretty well for me so far. Although my facebook page has been unpublished at the moment. My twitter is running okay with 50 or so link clicks to the article I wrote this morning already.

Premship although new has the right idea.. Though do also produce review articles for your internal traffic and conversions.. Use others to create the hook until you have enough authority that your reviews rank... Things like how to bet the total with bet365, or What's the biggest win on a football match? intrestion curious posts tend to drive natural backlinks.. no one ever links back to reviews but they will to something interesting

Nice article, I especially like the advice to “Bet Big”! So are you focusing mainly on accumulators? If so then you could make it your niche, and put that somewhere in your name, or underneath your logo or something. It’s good to have a niche to stand out from the crowd, and to keep on the topic of this thread, your pages are more likely to gain SE authority on topics related to your niche. I know a lot of people who only bet on accumulators – win/lose/draw, nice and simple. Your unique selling point could be along the lines of, “football is a simple game made complicated by assholes. Betting sites now offer over 100 different betting markets for most matched, at FBP we cut through all of that bullshit and give you the only market that matters - Win Lose or Draw”…or something like that!
My niche as such is Premier League betting only, and I’ve been working on the site for a few months now. I’ve outsourced the build and design, as I’m hopeless with all of that kind of stuff, and I should have a live site ready to go in a few weeks. Will be sure to post it up here as I’ve seen yourself and others get a lot out of doing that. Members don’t hold back with their constructive criticism, and that’s what you want. Good luck with your site mate, it looks great so far.

Yeah the tipping section will be predominantly accumulators so I'll try to make the focus on that clearer.
I really like your idea of the unique selling point, I've gone for the tagline:
“Making profit from Football Betting doesn’t have to be complicated!”
Going to keep working on emphasising that.
I don't know where I'd be without this forum to be honest, it's helped me so much. I hope to get to the point where I have the knowledge and experience to help out others like myself who are starting from nothing.
I'm looking forward to seeing your site when it's live.
