    Didn't see it but a 1-1 draw.

I'm so looking forward to watching 3 weeks of football. Love the World Cup.

well despite losing both my bets on ZA vs MX, i was happy to see the hosts put a point on the board, hopefully they'll make it to the 2nd round.

The general buzz in the north american sports reporting is that the US could beat UK, because we're a top quality "2nd Tier Team" so "it could happen". I'll bet the US because they're my team and because of the odds, i'll cheer because we love to kick the brits at something their better at, but no matter how much partying takes place, I won't forget that "we don't have a chance", until proven otherwise.

So much for work, it's June and it's World Cup time!

In honour of the World Cup I am changing my avatar (until England gets kicked out or wins, probably). I am also watching it mostly with the sound off!

Anyone else find the noise annoying?

The goal-tending has been horrific so far. 1st, England yesterday, and now today, Algeria. Maybe it's not too late for me to become a Keeper......oh, by the way, go U.S. !!!

That poor goalkeeper for the UK must be taking a beating right now.

But his screwup is no worse than the American who let his guy run right by him to make the UK goal. It's part of the game, someone screws up and someone else scores.

I'll admit not knowing the subtleties of the game, but generally, scoring involves controlling the middle to the sideline, inside out, as it were. UK guys were not that quick it seemed to me, and got lucky on their goal.

US guys seemed to stay on top of their guys pretty much, and were faster overall, which must be a consideration in any sport. I don't know strategy, but speed and quickness have to be factors in deciding what strategy to use, and being able to execute.

I have to say that most of the results have been totally unexpected for me.. and the games have been pretty shocking. The USA England game was the only one I've enjoyed watching so far because the teams are pretty dedicated and they just get in there and play. It's actually fun and intense to watch.

I thought England would beat the US. I also thought Serbia would win over Ghana.

The Australia/Germany result was to be expected I guess, although I can't believe they srewed us like that. 4-0 is a pretty embarrassing result. I guess we just have to hope that we win the next 2 games now...

Apparently Pim didn't play Kewell because he knew we would lose and didn't want him to get hurt for the next 2 games.. I guess it doesn't matter much now since that f***** up ref red carded Cahill.. What a ridiculous call... Apparently the ref is known for handed out cards a lot. Trust us to get him in the first game.

Anyway the next game is this weekend. If they play **** against Ghana I'm not watching anymore games and I'm switching teams and going to buy myself a South African jersey.

I'm tipping Germany to win the cup..

Believe it or not, but I didn't get tickets for any of the games! This was taken by a friend of mine who is MC at the Cape Town games (think it was taken before a game).

But I have been watching all the games at home - and will one of these days try and enter the fan park. So far they've been full from early morning every day.

And yes...I do have a vuvuzela

My biggest fear was that England would do to the US what Germany did to the Aussies. Instead of taking a spanking, the US lucked out and we're loving every minute of the victory against England.

I don't think brasil needs our support to beat north korea, i suspect their junior team can score 5 goals against the north.

I may have missed something, but wasn't it a draw between England and USA?

It was pretty much a draw in revolutionary war too LOL, but we call that a victory too.

American soccer fans know we're not in the same class a Germany, Brasil, Italy, and even England. So, it's as good as a victory, and it sure beats getting spanked. Finally, it pretty much ruined the weekend for English fans. Any time you can equal your old master it feels like victory.

And that's why we won, 1-1.

The Brazilian goal from the side nearly when he was even with the goal and able to curve the ball in was fantastic. But give N. Korea their due a 2-1 loss is almost like a win for them. Brazil lost an opportunity to put up some points.

The Brazil fans are crazy fun here, behind Holland they are the most popular and they dress much sexier
