Default Does Google penalize for repetitive submissions?

I think I may have made a mistake of repetitively submitting my twitter domain. And the reason for that was because it contains the keyword that I wanted to rank for in the URL. So I submitted it each time I tweeted.

Well up until last night, I at least saw it in Google's serp upon typing it in. But now it vanished. Could this be due to multiple submissions in such a short period of time? If so will there be any chance of it reappearing? Also how long does it usually take for Google to rank it with the keyword associated to the URL?

I see that Twitter has a PR9 and always thought that this makes Google rank it quicker and higher than the other sites associated with that specific keyword.

I was always under the impression that if you submit a domain with a string on the end (twitter could be used as an example, twitter.com/username) that Google will penalise the main site (twitter.com) because it doesn't take query strings or sub folders into consideration when sites are submitted.

    Is this incorrect?

I'm pretty sure Google doesn't really care about repetitive submissions. At worst they'll ignore them.

If not, say I was ranking in position 2 for "casino" and you were in position 1 (we wish...lol,) then what in effect you're saying that if I kept submitting your site, you would pick up a penalty and I would therefore, by default, pick up the top spot.

Google is way past those types of things having an influence on the rankings.

I also think that Renee is wrong with the sub-folders theory. Google ranks each page pretty much on it's own merits and certainly isn't going to penalise Twitter if I link to, submit or whatever, http://www.twitter.com/doolallys

It's a valid page and Google should get the chance to know about it, and rank it or otherwise on its own merits.

There are many factors that people believe but nobody knows apart from if you work at Google.

On the main site, it does say that repetitive submissions do nothing, you have to appreciate that if they ask you this then you should respect their wishes.

It is not proven that if you do this then something happens but it is has been known that it can lead to things like; taking ages to rank on Google, getting blacklisted for a little while etc.

It is also a possibility that your SEO company might submit you and then your Web Design company might then yourself so that is 3 times but that is why Google are quite lenient.

I wasn't referring to the ranking, i was referring to the submission.. The last time I submitted a domain to a search engine was years ago, so it could have changed by then, but I remember reading something along the lines of "only submit the main domain because the spiders will crawl it and rank the rest" kind of thing.. thats why i was under the impression that if you submit urls with subfolders google looks at it as though you're submitting the main domain each time and ignores the subfolders..

Murton can you elaborate on this?
I could be totally off.. It really has been a long time since I submitted a domain..

No submission needed with Google, they find you and prefer it that way. I know for certain multiple submissions will get your site penalized.

I never submit to any major SE's it comes naturally via bot.

I'm with Peter on this one.....

No need to submit the site, and multiple submissions are frowned upon, and if they get out of hand certainly will get you penalized.

I agree. I can't see how your site would get a negative penalty for having another site duplicate your social submissions. However, if you had millions them with no other source of links, then I think that could trigger some Penalties. I've heard of "Google Bombing", but never heard it directly from a webmaster that it hurt their site.

Have any of you been a victim of "Google Bombing"?

    Default Google will spank you

If you out right submit on a reptitive basis Google crawler will mark you as a spammer. If you change your site significantly you can request (in a different area of Google) to be re assessed or re crawled and that is not considered spamming and they will. It takes about 10 days for a new site to even get acknowledged so be patient.

Google's crawler is not a single threaded algorithm. Each thread collects its share of information, and assigns some defaults to the data collected. Then, other algorithms combine the results, adjust the defaults and the we experience what some call 'google dance'.

Due to enormous amount of pages on our website, we have seen it in action quite often. I.e. Pages appear and dissipater in Google search results, go up and down, and finally get a stable position on SERP.

I highly doubt Google penalizes for multiple submissions, however it is much better (speed wise) to submit a sitemap via google webmaster, than spam them.

Like most of the comment, this is no longer necessary as long as you have good backlinks to your twitter domain. If we are to refer to the basic of the crawling technology, your site will be discovered and rediscovered through links coming from other websites that link to it. So, if you don't have any backlinks for your twitter domain or only have a few, work on getting as much especially those relevant and having good PR.

Let me as well add, and this was based on Matt Cutts, that google's crawling priority is influenced by PR which is one of the reasons why it has been employed. That means to say, that putting your link on a web page with PR closer to 10, will be crawled and recrawled most often than putting your link on a web page with PR closer to 0.

    Hope that helps.

Google bombing is where a large number of sites all link to one site with a certain term (usually a deprecatory one) so that the 'victim' site ranks highly for that bad term - e.g. if you have a large network of sites you can link to a competitor from all of them with the anchor text 'scam casino site' so that your competitor then ranks highly for the search term 'scam casino site'

Google bowling is where you submit your competitors site to a lot of spammy directories etc. in the hope that Google will de-index them.

Don't think that repeated submissions hurt though (the above two techniques do work even though Google says they don't but I think Google are working on that!). A lot of CMSs (e.g. Joomla) and/or plugins or extensions for the CMSs can be set up to auto-submit a new XML sitemap (to Google and the other search engines) each time the site is changed. I have never heard of this being anything other than a reasonable thing to do.
