Excellent news friends.

15-term incumbent Republican Represent James Leach lost his re-election bid last night!

Leach is the guy who drafted what eventually became the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. Leach worked closely with Senator Jon Kyl to draft the bill before introducing it to the House in November of 2005. And then at the beginning of September Leach and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (the guy who was able to attach UIGEA to the port security bill) held a "field hearing" in Leach's home state of Iowa to bolster support for UIEGA.

In all likelihood, the fact that Leach was the author of UIGEA factored very little in his ousting, but I am still extremely happy to learn of his demise.
