Default Learn how to Hijack a web page

The people over at dejanseo.com.au have just published an article laying out how they 'hijacked' (with the site owners permission) pages from some fairly well known sites.

They also discuss how to protect your site from these type of attacks.

Very very interesting reading... if your into SEO.

Interesting that a page that Google has been aware of for some time can be usurped by a duplicate that has just come into existence. You'd think simple consideration of time of publishing would determine the original versus the duplicate.

Another consideration...if a higher PR site duplicates your content and Google takes it as the authority page, where do you then sit with a DMCA request?

A very interesting article, thanks for posting.

When a copy receives higher PageRank however, and the switch takes place, all links and social signals will be re-assigned to the “winning” version.
I was really surprised how quickly they were able to hijack the pages. Crazy.

I certainly hope that they at least recognize that they need to look at this. I don't expect them to actually acknowledge it is a problem.

    This is nothing new.
These guys at dejanseo just laid out this hack in a compelling and understandable way.

Google has been aware of this for some time...and it still works... So I would not expect anything about this to change in the near future.

Of course, if a lot of folks start using this "hack" to hijack pages, then maybe google will be forced to actually fix it.

Has been tried several times that I know of, with no success.
Cutts blog has such high "real" and tool bar PR that only a very very few sites could possibly pull off hijacking a page from Cutts blog.

Remember... the ONLY thing you have to have to hijack another page, is a page with a "real" Page Rank higher than the page your trying to hijack. It is really that simple.

@Crazyrewards-Maria, This was not about promoting their site. This was about exposing a HUGE hole in google's algo that effects just about every webmaster and site owner in the world.

The guys that did this had been repeated victims of page hijacking... they were tired of it(like I am) and like most things google... the googlies don't fix anything till they have too and as I said above if enough people start using this very simple method to hijack pages... google will be forced to fix it.

So I hope everyone that reads this story goes out and hijacks a page or two....

I remember seeing this trick years ago. The surprising thing is Google hasn't done anything about it.
