Default Links to Casinos same window or new?

    Hiyas

    Ok, here's a question

Do you guys open links to casinos in new windows, or the same window?

I know when I browse directorys I like the links to open in new windows so that I can review multiple websites and refer back to the directory.

I'm refering to target="_new" or something like that in your a href tag

    Thanks as always!!

There are pros and cons to opening in a new window. The pros are obvious. You still have the player on your site if he doesn't like the casino. The downside is, some pop-up blockers may view new windows as a pop-up. I open all external links in a new window.

Iīve been using target="_new" for some years on my sites, but only for casino links not internal pages, and itīs worked fine.

I also open all casino links (and link exchange links) in a new window. Got that tip from a fellow GPWA member who knew what he was talking about.

And yes, internal pages should never open in new windows - very irritating.

The target="_new" thing is quite interesting. The correct target for a new window is target="_blank". target="_new" appears to work, but in fact what it does is to create a new windows group called _new and loads new pages into those. If you leave a window open and try to open another window with target="_new" it will overwrite the previous page in the _new group. Holding down shift while clicking forces a new window of course.

I use it quite a lot when I want to preserve the original index, but don't want to overload the surfer with open windows. the _new could of course be any text string, "new" or "_gpwa" would have the same effect.

I was wondering about that myself - I use "_blank" on my links, and had never seen "_new".

interesting, I never really new there was a difference. I must have read how to do it originally when I made my first webpage and have been using "_new" all this time thinking it was some sort of HTML standard .

Being a programmer I usually let the GFX artists worry about the minor details such as HTML

    Thanks for your help everyone

Pop-up killers usually have a key you depress when you want things to open in a new window. But I dont know if the user know about it

Holding down shift when you click the mouse will open a new window.

The only time I've had a problem with using target="_new" was with a script that automatically changes the outgoing url under some circumstances. It dropped the target parameter if it wasn't one of the standard ones.

    I always use the _blank

even dreamweaver inserts that in the tag for a new window, so I feel confident about that

I've always used the new tag, sometimes when i'm being creative i call each window by a different name. So casino kingdom would be kingdom, captain cooks.. cook.. you get the point
