Looking for slot machine information

I am developing a slot machine, and I am trying to find some information regarding the best way to set the reels in order to calculate an accurate payout percentage and hit count.

I am looking for some guidelines, maybe a book, any information would be greatly appreciated, as long as it is based on regulation.

Try the Wizard of Odds - Mike Shackleford. He's been featured on someTV shows talking about Vegas odds and such... His site is one of the best in my opinion - if you're interested in the math behind gambling.
