For Mac Users !

Hey all,

For Mac users, I need your advice on which Web development software to purchase. I used to use Frontpage on my ex-PC, but now that i have a Mac, i don't know what to use and i would rather get something more for Mac than for PC. i want something similar to frontpage or dreamweaver.

I've heard dreamweaver was good. i used to use frontpage. any thoughts about the difference between dreamweaver and coda?

Anyhow i'm about to start my own website (about zumba and not gambling).

actually i looked into the iweb application which did come with my Mac book as well. you can use it for basic website design but you are somewhat restricted whith how much you can do with your site. i'd rather have more freedom with my design/development.

I've been using a MAC for dev and design for the last 5 years. I highly recommend Dreamweaver CS5. It's awesome.

Depends on what you want to do. If you just want to crank out html pages then there are plenty of good tools. If you are writing a lot of server side code like php or java then its a different story.

I use Netbeans and before that Eclipse. Both are free and come with plugins to aid web development but unless you're a software developer / programmer you'll probably want to give them a miss.

Although there is a free distro of Eclipse aimed at web developers called Aptana that you could try. I don't know how drag-and-drop it is compared to something like Dreamweaver or Frontpage, as that is not how I work.

Coda looks pretty and I tried it but it doesn't have many features you get standard in most IDEs that I can't live without. Stuff like navigating between functions by clicking on function names and lots more that I can't remember now (tried it a long time ago and trashed it within an hour).

I really like dreamweaver. I don't even tip the surface of the features they offer, but it really helps when coding pages in PHP. It makes it much easier.

Thanks for the tips. Actually i am not an expert developer at all . My knowledge is a bit basic. Mainly html coding.
Maybe i should start with trying the free ones, and if i'm not happy with them then i'll go for the dreamweaver. From the free softwares I tried so far kompozer and NVU, but was not impressed at all.
