Default Make sure to check your banners regularly

Betfred, Bet365, William Hill, Genesis. With all those brands, my banners every now and then stopped working. They are actually present and visible on the website, but after clicking they take you to a 404 or to other no-money making destination. My banners are not iframes, nor scripts taken from the affiliate interface, but jpg with a text link. So the argument can not be that this or that promo is over. Funny thing is that the text link is working but in a combination with the jpg it is not working. This is indeed not a rule... First I was thinking the issue was me putting it wrongly on the pages, but after digging deeper into it I see there must be something I technically don't get. Can the bookie simply set "make this text link non working with jpg from tomorrow"? In any case, please share your experience with this and pls let me know if I am missing anything basic here.

ps. I am not blaming the brands for doing anything like stealing the traffic. This might be some kind of protection they might be having not to upset the UKGC

Just disabled Betfred banner a week ago because for some reason it stopped working. Didn't analyse it deeper, but it was a gif with a text link. I thought the error was on my side. Still possible it was. Thanks for the heads up

I've had the same issues in the past with a couple of programs. I've had to go and follow up with the affiliate managers to have them straighten it out. There's nothing more important than checking your banners and links at regular intervals.

And what was the problem? Did they give you any reasoning?

bet365 banners drop off when the site is down for routine maintenance I've noticed, yesterday morning around 7am was an example if that tallies.

They were just moving their data between servers.

For that reason I always use jpeg/gif banners in a way downloaded to my server and I am putting direct links under them.
The problems with banners are much more in common. The operators do not know anything about it. They usually even outsource it to 3rd party, so they think it works, but it does not.

Problem is just with dynamic banners, there we must suffer. Otherwise not.

Yup, host the banners on your server and use the homepage link (not a promo / landing page link) because it happens too often that banners or those LPs go down. The problem with this solution is that you have more work when the program requests you to update your banners (often due to regulation, for example when need to have some legal text included in your ads).

It is even more work, e.g. changing thematic banners. Sometimes we do it even weekly. But this way only the landing pages/direct links have to be checked whether they work.

Sometimes, when using the prepared banners, it is a journey to idiocy of AMs. They have for example NFL banner created and NFL landing page. But the link under their banner leads not to NFL, but to homepage.. or even worse to box.

Thanks for the heads up on this. Don't really check the banners frequently but a good thing to start. In many cases removing banners completely regardless.
