I don't know what you've seen but I see this exact strategy working very well in the dating niche. Never seen it in casino niche, and I guess dating is a little more "general" than casino, but still.

    It's just about how you use it, you could for example build out a PBN of just general domains (non-casino ones), pass on the juice to your money casino site. It works great, even though the links aren't that relevant. Although you can make them contextual by doing it like this;
Say your PBN site on expired domain is in the dog niche, you could write an article about "top 10 things to do on your boring dog walk" and mention casinos in there with a link to your site.

    Personally, I don't look after DA/CF/TF.

For me the most important factor, how much referral domains the website has, and how much outgoing dofollow links it give to other sites. Next step is the age of domain. DA/CF/TF can be easily manipulated.

    How do you track this?

Saw this old thread after getting a link seller's "list" and noticing most were inflated Ahrefs DR. IMHO this can be detected with existing Ahrefs stats.

Agree with all, DR is junk UNLESS the other stats corroborate it.

    Look at:
    1. Referring Domains
    2. Backlinks
    3. Backlink redirects (can catch people redirecting expired domains, though sometimes this is innocent)
    4. Keywords
    5. Ahrefs Traffic estimates.

I have a couple other metrics which I can discuss privately or trade for a legit link. A basic system can be organized using GoogleSheets and Ahrefs Exports, even on the basic plan. PM me.

Basically, you have to ask yourself: Does anyone besides Ahrefs think this site is great?

    Smoke and mirrors.
It was the same thing back in the day with Google PR. It meant sweet FA.

However, I recall having a string of multiple sites all with a (Page Rank) PR6. If I recall correctly, was getting $100 per month for an outbound link. At the time, I was making $20K extra per year just on that.

It's not too far off the original PR manipulation. Links from high PR sites increase your PR, same thing happens here - links from high DA sites increase your DA and so on... back in the day it used to be so blatantly obvious that a single link from a PR4 site would make your site PR3.

You can tell a lot by the site by looking at the specific back links. Sort by DA and see what shows up. If they're junk or weird ?jumpto redirects (yes we all know about that trick) then it's all fake. Find sites with actual natural reference links.

But like you say, a site with DA45 that has no traffic is pretty obvious to stay away from anyway.
