Link shortener doesn't work with certain affiliate links?

[Scampi]

I downloaded this really great Wordpress plugin that shortens links, and it works with them all except for Betfair. Doesn't anyone know why? It looks like the Betfair link goes to three destinations prior to the site! Has anyone else had this problem?

never, you may want to try the re-direction plugin, it may work for this. The Flytonic theme has this feature in it without a plugin.

Try the WordPress plugin Simple URLs http://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-urls/

Or maybe you can try Pretty link Plugin. One of the best.

A simple php or html redirect works much faster with all links and no plugin overhead.

Yes you are right, but for wp, a dedicated plugin is best option. And you have internal stats.

Thanks for the mentions. I'll try the plugins, the one I'm using works for all of them except Betfair which is weird.

I totally and completely disagree with this statement.

Queries to the database to answer the link add overhead and are not as fast as a plain html or php redirect page.

All links would be in a single place and link changes would be handled in a similar manner as using a plugin.

No need to ever worry about the plugin having security issues or be updated.

The idea that just because it's wordpress, everything a webmaster does should be run through a plugin is incorrect thinking throughout the ENTIRE hosting industry, and not strictly defined by the gambling world.

Plugins can and do have their place, I only suggest one should be aware sometimes there are other more efficient or just as efficient ways to do things.

I agree with Rick. The database queries will take longer to redirect. Also html redirects don't show refereed links

I agree. WP requires updates for one.

I prefer using an htaccess file though and pull my titles into the url with a rule.

Hi. A dedicated plugin? How do we do that please?

[robyroy]

If you use wordpress, Try http://wordpress.org/plugins/pretty-link/ . Or, if you want, you can try pro version (this is not free) .

[universal4]

Or if you want to keep it simple and fast here is code for a php redirect page:

<?php
header('Location: http://www.affiliatelink.com/affid');
?>

For plain html use:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
<meta name="robots" content="noindex">
<META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" content="0; URL=http://www.affiliatelink.com/affid" />
<title>Visit Casino</title>
</head>
<body>
</body>
</html>

In either case if you use the above method, you should put the pages in their own directory and disallow that folder in your htaccess file.

Be sure to replace your the fake affiliate link (in red) with your affiliate link.

Then you can name the page affiliatesite1.php or affiliatesite1.html.

This would then mean your affiliate links on your site would look like
http://www.yoursite.com/go/affiliatesite1.php or http://www.yoursite.com/go/affiliatesite1.html

You would need a single page with a unique name for each link you use.

Notice in the html example I added the no index tag.
