Buenos Aires approves seven operators for iGaming licenses
Nearly two years after legalizing online gambling, the President of the Buenos Aires’ Provincial Institute of Lotteries and Casinos awarded licenses to seven gaming companies last week, including brands owned by Betsson and William Hill.
The seven partnerships include both domestic and foreign operators:
- ArgenBingo BA and William Hill
- Atlántica de Juegos and Stars Interactive Limited
- Binbaires SA and Intralot SA
- Boldt SA and Cassava Enterprises Gibraltar
- Casino de Victoria and Betsson Group.
- Hotel Casino Tandil and Playtech Plc
- Pasteko SA and Hillside Media Malta
Notable rejections include well-known Spanish players Codere SA and Luckia (Grupo EGASA), as well as Latin American group BetCris.
The licenses awarded with strict regulations, including a single fee of AR$65m (£565,000) with 25% gross revenue tax.
Within 10 days, they must then present a compliance guarantee that proves that they are willing to fall in line with the provincial regulations. To meet these regulations, operations must be carried out by a legal person, a human or a public and private entity with a registered address in Buenos Aires. In order for international companies to obtain a license in this province, a local person or company must hold a 15% stake in the operation.

This is excellent! Hopefully, we'll see more welcome news for our industry in 2021. We really need it. Anything can happen this year and there's a lot of time.
