Default Need Advice for Optimizing Website

Hi everyone! I couldn’t find a similar thread, so I started a new one. I need advice. Recently, the bounce rate on my website, specifically on the most important pages, has increased. I have a hunch that this is due to the fact that the first three casino banners grab all the attention, preventing visitors from scrolling down to the content. This issue is present on the main page of my site, https://www.casacomunelaudatoqui.org/, as well as on other pages. Do you have any tips on how to optimize the main page? Should I move the text to the beginning, or could there be other reasons for the increased bounce rate on my site? I don't have any other ideas ...

I'd say that to understand why they're bouncing, and assuming there isn't a technical loading problem, you first have to understand how visitors are arriving at the page/site. You have to work out what search terms are bringing them, and firstly answer their query.

example - if visitors are searching 'how to play roulette'...and the first thing you do is show them 3 casinos, then that is not answering their query. If you don't give a quick indication that the page can answer the query, then it's no surprise that they will click back to find one that will. Also, eventually the search engines will drop you anyway, because you're not answering the query and they will have data building up that indicates searchers can see that and the content isn't 'helpful'.

For that homepage, what you could do is see what terms you are ranking for, what terms are actually pulling traffic, and then decide how to populate the higher sections of the page. You'd have to decide whether to focus on the terms you rank for and are attracting traffic, or the terms you intended to rank for (and then try to improve the page to rank for them).

You can still have the 3 casinos (because that's what will make you money), just be sure they aren't the main focus of the page if the search terms aren't something like 'what are 3 good casinos for Italian players'.

One other thing, though. When you say they 'bounce', you're sure it isn't just you have a highly effective CTA and they are actually clicking to the casinos listed?

There are several nuances that could be at play, but this is probably one reasonable way to approach an investigation.

You can try using hotjar for a little while. It will slow your site down, but you will get some recordings of what users do, what they look at and when exactly they leave. Helped me a few times.

I think the major point here, is the history of the (expired) domain.
No even a half year loaded with gambling related content.
Still many of the former (social, educational history) non-gambling pages are indexed. That need to be fixed.
They bouncing because the do not look for gambling and getting a 404 probably.
Your gambling landing pages you receive some traffic from are almost only reviews without your "first three casino banners".
I guess the majority of your traffic is not interested in gambling, thats it.

You have some very good suggestions here - definitely make sure the user intent is being met when they land on the page. U should also check the clicks on your CTAs - because if they are clicking the top list that means they prolly are finding what they want - in that case u can add an intro paragraph and mayb have some more casinos displayed to increase the choice without an overkill. Mayb try move your list view further up on the page to replace the cards ?
On mobile the cards get pushed much further down - could this be working against u? perhaps all that text and scrolling before they get to the top list means they bounce on mobile - players generally rarely spend much time reading , they want to proceed to play - this is all the more true on mobile

If the traffic has increased as well as the bounce rate, you might find it's increased bot activity that's skewing the bounce rate.

If the bulk of your traffic is from natural search for instance, and recently there's been a spike in direct traffic, then it could well be that.

The site looks good. Check to see what your keywords are. In some cases, people that come in from the best keywords click on a banner or site quickly and become a FTD. Good luck with your project.

Thanks everyone for the advice! A lot of useful information for me. I'll definitely need to rethink the main user intent on my site.

Yes, the site is on WordPress. I've been thinking about adding hotjar, but I'm a bit worried about having to deal with optimizing the site speed again later
Right now, I'm searching for some other options to track clicks without slowing down the site. I've noticed that this directly impacts how my site ranks in search results.

Also, thanks for bringing up the topic of indexed pages. I spotted them a while ago but kind of happily forgot about them for a bit. It's time to deal with it.

Try easy affiliate links or maybe thirsty affiliate links. Both are very helpful for link tracking and do not add much overhead at all.

There are threads here that discuss link cloaking or tracking. In fact at least one was active in the last week or so. Will did it up for you as it might have a few link plugins to consider.

here are a few but there are others

If you have a problem with bounce rate specifically, I recommend connecting Hotjar to understand exactly how a user behaves on your page and at what stage they leave you. It will definitely help you!
In my experience I wouldn't recommend you to use banners on the first screen. Google says that the first screen is the most important screen on the page, so try to make it not only attractive to the user, but also the most informative and responsive to the main query of the page.
