Default Need help with XML site map and simple Site Map

    Hi All,

Thanks for your inputs on my last posts.

I have a question about XML and simple Site Map.My SEO guy has recommended to add both on my site which I am little confused about.

    1. Should we add both on the site or only one.
    2. I also want to know which among these two is more beneficial if one needs to be added.

there is an html/php (or whatever markup code your site has been created in) site map you add to your website. This is just a collection of the pages on your site. Before XML site maps this aided SE's in finding your sites' pages. I doubt it carries the same weight as it once did years ago with the advances in SE bots. But I keep mine mostly for the visitors to use. It doesn't hurt to have it.

this is how I do mine.

The other sitemap the SEO guy is talking about is typically done in XML and the one you submit to search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo. I submit mine through Google Webmaster Tools and use to through Yahoo Site Explorer (I believe yahoo site explorer has been retired since Bing bought them). Bing also has Webmaster Tools. I have accounts at all three.

You can use an XML generator to make your XML sitemap. There are a bunch of free ones and there is a thead in the forum that was started a while back with a some links to them if I recall.

I 'm not sure about adding your XML site map to your site. Perhaps someone else knows something about this and can post.

Hope that helps clear it up a little.

I think the way you have it is fine.

Looking back I opted to added my xml site map to my robots.txt file like so vs. putting a link on my site.
    sitemap: http://www.slottipsguide.com/sitemap.xml

I noticed Google downloads the robots.txt file quite often.

Do you have a robots.txt file?

Thanks for the suggestion..We always give so much value to google .Bing and Yahoo also contributes a lot of traffic on my site I will see if I have submitted it on bing as its been a long time ..
