NETELLER and Skrill Block Gambling-Related Payments in Brazil

Brazil’s online gamblers are facing a crisis after payment processors Neteller and Skrillannounced they would no longer support Brazilians making deposits to gambling services.

On Wednesday, Brazilian gamblers reported receiving email notices from Neteller informing them that the company “will no longer process deposits by members in Brazil to gambling merchants” effective February 21. Skrill customers reported receiving a similarly worded message.

Customers will have until February 28 to withdraw funds from online gambling sites to their Neteller/Skrill accounts. The companies apologized for the inconvenience and said customers’ accounts will otherwise be unaffected.

It’s unclear what type of pressure Brazilian law enforcement may have put on Neteller and Skrill, which are both owned by Paysafe Group(formerly Optimal Payments). Paysafe has steadily reduced its online gambling relationships in recent years as governments attempt to enforce nanny-state restrictions on how citizens can spend their money.

Online gambling customers from Brazil were informed earlier this week that online payment service provider NETELLER would no longer process deposits to online gambling operators. Players will be able to withdraw their funds from these operators via NETELLER until February 28, 2018.

It later on became known that Skrill will also stop processing deposits from Brazilian playersto online gambling websites. Here it is important to note that both service providers are part of the larger Paysafe Group.

While gambling customers were not further informed why the two payment service processors had come to their decision to stop processing gambling-related payments in the country, the reason perhaps has much to do with the current legal status of online gambling in Brazil.

Under the country’s long-standing gambling laws, most gambling services, Internet gaming and betting included, are illegal. To be more precise, Brazil’s current regulatory framework does not include regulations about the provision of online gaming and betting services. This has made it possible for international operators to target local players in a gray zone for several years now.

I would also like an explanation for this. It's such a shame that they are blocking gambling-related payments to people throughout the world now.

It took quite some time but now Skrill & NETELLER are back on the Brazil market for gambling!

Neteller is already quite bad considering their fees. Skrill is quite good though, they recently added a nice loyalty program but their support is very slow.

Moved to Bitcoin years ago. Fast and cheap....mostly. Can get expensive if you use a BTC ATM. But, if I need money fast there are about 20 of them in Las Vegas.
