The name of the malware is "dress code" it has been discovered in 40 different apps available in the Play Store.
In addition to that it has been discovered in a minimum of 400 different apps available through third party app download locations.
If you only download apps from the official play store, you may want to see the checkpoint linked article, as it contains the list of the 40 apps discovered with the malware.

I have not yet seen a full list of apps that checkpoint discovered from other sources.
What I found even more interesting about this is that many of the apps appear to appeal to children and game players, so parents may want to take a look at all phones in the household.“Since the malware allows the attacker to route communications through the victim’s device, the attacker can access any internal network to which the device belongs. This can compromise security for enterprises and organizations,” Check Point added.
This malware creates and connects to botnets and C&C servers, so it could have disastrous results later.
My theory is this is just ONE of the many pieces of malware in the wild affecting smartphones and tablets that are being used to proxy traffic and used against other ip addresses, sites and applications.
Can you say brute force attempts and spam?
