Is this a new form of rich snippets?

Was doing a few searches the other day and I noticed this, it's something I haven't seen before so far.

In the searches, it actually shows an author name complete with a picture. Presumably this comes from the Googlemail account of the site owner.

Has anybody else seen this?

By the way, if the owner of onlinebingofinder is reading it, I haven't picked you out for any reason, just because your site was the first one I saw with this feature.

It is a new Authorship Markup

Here is a way that was posted on a SEO forum .

1. Create a new Google Profile and add a "contributor to" link to your website. Also make sure your profile is public, although I'm 90% sure they are public as default.




2. Add the Rel authorship code with a link to your Google profile on every single page of your website. If you're using Wordpress just edit the header.php and add it underneath your style sheets.

3. Then test your mark up with the Google Rich Snippets Testing Tool.

This used to be white list only, but now you just need to wait to be recrawled. I've tested with with stock images and it showed up after about a week.

Yea but I recently read where it will likely be moving to....microdata as the preferred method.

I have only recently been researching this and I don't recall if the author was supported in that or what the caveats (if any) of using more than one method is.

Also, I read something recently about google showing people 'more posts from xxx' if you return to the search after a significant amount of time. No idea where this article was though

I didn't say that I hadn't seen it before, but only recently started looking into it in more depth.

Google details how you can add this and also test it to see if you have done it correctly. It takes a bit of a while for the results to show up that way though and from what i understand there is no guarantee that it will show up.
