    Default Newbie Help

    Hi guys,

Long time lurker, first time poster...

I am now jumping balls deep into affiliate gambling and need some pointers as I am wasting so much time with the basic logistics of getting started:

    1. Wordpress Themes - I want a regular looking site where I can post articles and then have a side widget ranking TOP 5 Sports Books or something like that. Any suggestions? I've checked out "responsivo" and "flytronics" themes. Both cost a bit of money and chances are I am going to have to pay someone on Fiverr or something to set it up for me so I can actually being to edit content and building the page. Any suggestions on themes, plugins, etc?

    2. Affiliates - I know there is a laundry list of gambling affiliate networks here but I also notice that some people have problems with different companies. If anyone currently works with a reliable affiliate network for US based players please let me know.

    3. Sports Picks/ Linking - If I am creating a sports betting sites with articles about current sports teams/news and then driving traffic to my affiliate links, Is there anyone that runs a "sports picks" site that would want to do some cross marketing? Maybe a link exchange and/or rev share for customers I get to sign up for your "picks" ?

    4. Legality - If I am based in a state in the USA where sports gambling is illegal, are there any legal repercussions for running an affiliate website?

    5. Bots - Does anyone use bots for forum posting or social media? Any good ones to look into?

    6. Automation - Are there any programs that I can select websites that I like articles from and set the program so it automatically populates that sites article on my website?

So you just want to create spam content and steal articles?

Not at all. Thanks for your helpful reply though.

What I was looking for in reference to #6 is.. lets say a NFL or College Football site posts something related to "latest league injuries" (that is a complete random topic off the top of my head)...then I would like to make sure I capture that and have it shown on my page in something similar to a small "breaking news" article widget. Hell, I actually would probably end up editing the posts myself (once I got to them) but if I didn't, what would be wrong with having it show on my page? They click on the article headline in the widget and either view the article on my site or get sent to another site? I'm not trying to act like its my article.

As far as the bot is concerned, i'm looking for something to build up social media accounts that can drive traffic to my sties. I know they exist, I just know (along with everything else) there is a lot of garbage out there and was hoping someone (with experience) could point me in the right direction or have experience using any.

I can tell you one thing is certain, you will only get traffic by producing fresh quality content, and by quality I mean once you get to the stage where a potential reader adds "keyword here" + "your domain here" you are doing something right. really you need some big traffic figures to make money on this side of the business for US sports and it's going to involve a lot more than you are initially planning.. if you can get some crack writers that readers love everything else will slip into place

    Hi Maverick

I still consider myself new to this game, Im about 20 months in now but Im happy to share anything I have learned in that time.

You are on the right track in my opinion by using Wordpress. I use it for all of my websites and it has some great free and premium themes and plugins available. Im currently building a new website now and the theme Im using for that is Tortuga from ThemeZee. They have a free version and a paid version which unlocks a few extra features but the free version sounds like its worth a look for what you are trying to do. If not PM me some requirements or examples and I will see what I can find for you.
With regards to plugins some of the most widely used ones are Yoast SEO which helps with your on page SEO efforts. It also connects with Google and Bing webmaster tools to help indexing your website faster. Some other good ones are Wordfence to keep it secure, and Loginizer to stop brute force attempts. Code Canyon has tons of great plugins that you may find helpful for your niche, I know there are many sport related ones and they are cheap enough. One thing I would say is if you are putting time and money into your website then dont use any nulled themes or plugins.
Unfortunately Im unable to help you with the US affiliate networks or the legalities of promoting in the US. What I would recommend doing is starting a thread dedicated to those two questions and see what kind of response you get from the members on here.
As for partnering up with another tipster website thats a great idea. I would contact websites your looking to work with and see what type of deal they may want. The only problem I see is many of those sites also push their own affiliate offers so that may be a stumbling block. The alternative is to use many of the free tipster sites until you can hire your own tipster. You may be able to find some on here, again I would start a dedicated thread for that.
As another user has mentioned bots and automated tools are normally associated with spam. I dont use any spam tools myself but the one plugin I use which imports RSS feeds is called WPeMatico. I use that for importing sports news from 2 or 3 leading football outlets online. They are only flash news stories but its easy enough to add banners or offers to each small post.

If you need any help give me a shout, I hope you do well with your new venture

    Happy New Year!

Thank you so much! I'm currently using resportsive theme. Having a real herd time getting things set up. I don't want it to be too over complicated. I need to find myself a wordpress tutor for a day or two and I think I would be good to go. Best of luck to you as well!

One advice I can give you, stay away from AFFILIATE NETWORKS , they will ALWAYS SHAVE YOU!
So if you want to make money make your research and go to the affiliate program directly!

"Does anyone use bots for forum posting or social media? Any good ones to look into?"

After reading this line everything is crystal clear to me. One more puzzle piece that makes the reputation of this industry greater.

There are some great ones on YouTube:

None of those are mine and I have not watched all the way through, I just skimmed through the video and they seem to cover what you need.
