The more regulations, blockades the better for offshore bookmaker partners. Regulated brands in such locations don't stand the slightest chance when it comes to the quality of their offerings because of taxes. There is no way to get such high odds as with offshore bookmakers.

Players will look for the highest betting odds and the best offshore casino games anyway.

This is a decision that will have a great impact on the sports gaming business in Belgium. in any case it is a decision strictly not necessary because if the goal is to protect young people by preventing them from gambling it is a good initiative

Legislation such as this is only inevitable and will eventually be introduced by other countries in the the coming years. The same happened with the tobacco and liquor industries. This will only free up money used on advertising to be available for other marketing activities.

By the way, think as if such a law were introduced in the UK, the US or the EU as a whole. I'm assuming the majority target those markets for their content.

Such regulations in Belgium will not make people not search the internet for casino and bookmaker offers.

Will offshore affiliate sites drop out of all the competition from affiliates advertising legitimate businesses and gain much in this market?

Or will the law be so effective that it will eliminate access to all advertising?

So affiliates will be left with two options.
Delete their affiliate sites.
Add illegal offshore casinos.

I know what I'd be choosing.

If it's an across the board ban on gambling advertising - and not a carve out for a state run bookmaker then I can live with this decision. I'm surprised the Belgium think gambling is a specific issue to deal with but hey-ho always tough to understand Belgians.

We use geo-tagging so it's pretty easy to replace ads with a message saying something like :

"Belgians can still gamble - but since the Belgian government enacted a law we're no longer allowed to specifically tell you which places are safe anymore."

(But check the main list for obvious candidates)

My take on this matter is that the intent behind the ban is commendable, since it claims to protect the potential victims of gambling. While I would be in full agreement if the ban was on questionable or illegal online platforms, I do think it's quite unfair to the affiliates and operators who have been ethically running their businesses.

In terms of its effectiveness, I'd say it's really a wild guess at this point. After all, with the onslaught of technology, circumvention may prove to be possible...
