Northeast needs to prepare for Storm (Frankenstorm)

Being in Florida watching storms becomes second nature.

Hurricane Sandy will be passing by us tonight and tomorrow morning, but I am not extremely worried sionce it is not expected to hit land....in the south.

Even though it is a half day away I have already had to pick up all kinds of stuff out of the yard, and later today and this evening I will bring all loose stuff like trash cans, lawn furniture etc in to reduce flying debris. (all normal things we deal with each year in the state)

But the biggest thing about this storm? The northeast needs to prepare.

According to everything I have read and seen, this thing could turn into quite the Nor'easter and affect quite a bit of the northeast.

Many computer forecast models show Sandy developing into a massive storm off the Mid-Atlantic coast Monday into Tuesday, before making landfall somewhere between the Delmarva Peninsula and eastern Long Island on Tuesday.

What’s worse, they show a storm stronger than any to ever affect the region in modern history.

Hi Rick,

I hope you and your family are ok after the hurricane. I also come from a part in the world prompt to get hit by natural disasters; it’s true that to a certain point you learn to live with nature and get use to it.

I was reading today that last night Canada was shaken by a strong earthquake and Hawaii is waiting for a tsunami. I hope there won’t be many fatalities.

Im in south central PA and people are going nuts! I tried to pick up a few normal things at the grocery store yesterday and it was packed! They say another storm is joining Sandy and will be similiar to the "Perfect Storm" from the movie but this one will actually make landfall. Honestly I am kind of excited to experience this. In my lifetime there has never been a storm like this in my area. Hopefully people are preparing and everyone will make it out OK.

My sister lives on the water in Annapolis Maryland and I am headed there later today to help sandbag. I am more concerned for them than anything else. Just bought the house last year and we all just split a boat 3 weeks ago and its docked at their house. Some of their neighbors are actually taking their boats out late Monday to ride the storm out in the Bay but I am not that brave! Thats why their is insurance! We are just going to tie it up to the peir and put bouyies between the boat and peir. Hope it works!

We are on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. Our house is a couple miles from the Atlantic. The Gov already called a state of emergency for the state.

I've seen many hurricanes over the years but can always learn something. A weather man was telling us that with a huge storm like this, there is a difference with leaves still on the trees. Winter storms can blow through the bare trees but with the leaves still on the trees it causes resistance which causes more breakage and downed limbs. It's foliage season and still lots of leaves.

Joe and I went and secured the back yard and I was looking at the humungous Maple tree in the yard. That tree never looked so ominous lol.

Travis, not sure exactly where you are but sounds like it is fairly close to where I grew up. I have family just north of you as well as east of there. Be sure to check back in on Tiesday and let us know you are ok and how things are.

Mojo from what I can tell the storm will not be hitting you guys directly and will be south of there but this thing is pretty big and will certainly be mixing things up a bunch for the entire northeast for a few days.

Wow didn't know that smoking, keep us updated....

I guess we get conditioned to these....to us a category 1 is nothing since we often have to deal with much bigger storms every year....

Update

I lost power,phone, cable tv and internet monday nite 7pm ( est) may not get it back till next tuesday maybe
22k elcetric customers in my area and 21,600 not have power lol

NYC is a mess 1/2 the city out of power ( subways flooded also )
