    Default Odd caching problem

Question for the techiest of techies amongst you (Rick? )

I'm setting up a new site using one of those new fangled .online domains and I'm running into a rather odd problem which I'm assuming is somehow cache related (but possibly not?).

Currently I have the same page up in two different browsers (chrome and internet explorer) and two different versions of the page are showing.

    Scrrenshot: http://snag.gy/wtdS2.jpg

I'm not logged in to the site on either page, and caching is disabled in the CMS backend (site uses joomla). I've also just checked the server which also has a cache option that's been set to 0.

Weird thing is that if it was something to so with a cache, wouldn't it be the same for both browsers (ie: neither would update).

Have deleted the cookies and temporary files for both browsers too in case it was that.

    Site is: http://www.freebets.online/

    Anyone have any bright ideas?

I visited the site and see the page that shows in your screenshot on the left.

The caching bit that you see can sometimes be related to the browser cache not updating, even when you try and force it. I know this behavior is not supposed to happen, but sometimes it does.

As an example, I had a site the other day I changed the default page from index.html to index.php and yet since I had browsed the site I kept seeing the html page, even after I renamed the page on the server. I flushed my cache completely and then I saw the php page.

Also, if your isp or any isp in the route for that matter, is using a caching server and has those pages, it could take a short time to see the updated pages.

Totally deleted the browser cache - still the same. Also weirdly the one that's showing the old version of the page (the one you saw) is what I see when using a brand new browser (wifes computer, phone etc...) and I can only see the newly updated one in the browser that's seen the site before.

It also does seem to be updating, but at a delay of a few hours.

With the caching server - would that result in different people seeing different results?

Yes, a caching server might be set to only get new pages daily, hourly or might be weighted based upon traffic numbers.

How new is it? Did you change the DNS or just build out new?

Right I think I've sorted it - went back to the server and had a hunt around every nook and cranny and found a second caching service on the called Varnish. But no options etc.. just a button hidden somewhere to disable it.

Mystery solved though, and you were correct Rick - so cheers for that!

Started it today, but the DNS was updated a week or two ago.
