Default Offline marketing in the UK

Apologies for the multiple questions this week!

I'm in the process of setting up a number of niche sites and a portal and am curious to know if any of you have had success with traditional offline marketing methods - such as newspaper/magasine adverts or targeted leafleting? These would be specifically relating to individual niche sites, not the portal.

Also, for those of you based in the UK have you come accross any specific guidelines relating to promoting gaming products? Obviously I would consult legal advice before any advert actually went out, but it would be good to have a rough idea of what is and isn't allowed!

I do really appreciate any advice you can offer me!

If you do offline promotion, you'll expect to get 100% response from those interested people specially if you do tv or radio advertisement. Those are an old type of promotion but very effective.

I've never really tried offline promotion so can't comment. However, the Advertising Standards Authority http://www.asa.org.uk/ have a list of guidelines for gambling related advertisements.

They'll even review your advert/campaign for free to make sure it complies with any relevant standards.

As a UK resident I would say radio and magazine advertising would work but forget the leaflets as 90% of all leaflets get slung straight in the bin.

In previous business dealings, not our industry, however, offline marketing for online business has shown very poor results.

Only television advertising has ever worked for me in regards to online business. I will admit, it worked very well, so well my server collapsed within 15 minutes the inaugural time.

I have the actual figures stored away somewhere with pretty good statistics for all manner of offline advertising if you want me to look them up.

Be warned, without a niche, offline advertising for online business is very risky and not so fruitful.

From my personal experience in offline marketting, i would reccomend 3 ways , one is by CD with the casinos software on it with your tracking code , an another one is by Bussiness Cards and by hiring some nice ladies with the shirt of your casino brands giving for free the cds with the software.

TV and Radio not sure as there is no way to track them. If you are an affiliate of course.

Bu i also have to say that the results at least where i live werent so much impressive.

I've heard of affiliates doing this in the past, but with mixed results. I'd be curious to know the outcome if you repeated it.

Were the fliers just for the website (eg: visit example.com for casino bonuses) or were they run in combination with a specific promotion or competition? (eg: example.com is giving away a seat in the WSOP etc...).

the ad was specific to my website , but with some bonus offers.i am a bit hesitant to do it again, cos i didnt get even a single hit. besides casino is about 90 mins drive and was kinda scared of security as well. but may be i only circulated 200 leaflets, thats why didnt get any results.
i will really like to know if any1 has tried it and got some positive results?

I like the entrepreneurial spirit on that idea. I can imagine me doing something like that given the chance. Be careful of the security gaurds!

I'm trying some offline advertising. Looking into Billboards of diffrent sizes. I'll post results.

I've been thinking of just walking around town with leaflets /business cards saying nothing more than the site address, but I guess the problem will be knowing who is visiting because of this, and who has found the site another way. I'll have a go and post back, it can't do any harm to try.
