As a 'veteran' with google updates, this reminds me why we always 'hedge' and have different sites for the same niche & geo.

Having this thread to be reminded in a year about all the wins we will have.

So it might not be a bad idea to have an x number of secondary websites that target various search terms circulating in the Web.

Google is constantly having updates and it really comes as no surprise that they have erratic changes like this.

This latest update was heavy.. looking at the results i would imagine some type of recovery in 4 weeks typical after a big update.. but I know guys using spun content getting big boosts from this last one, and spammy links

That's the risk of running your livelihood on Google. Today you're hero, tomorrow you're zero. This is the risk that affiliates take and deserve the premium for in terms of high commissions.

I found traffic from Google has halved since the update with our relatively new website.

It appears more than ever you need authority with the EAT criteria (Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness)

This last update has not been kind for traffic. Though it does not seem to have affected sign ups much.

In fact, I can't figure out WTF is going on. How does KW ranking and traffic fall, yet sign up stay the same?

Perhaps there were some GA reporting issues that were fixed as well as algo changes?

When an update is being rolled out; the filters are turned off for a few days, which is why previously demoted pages turn up high in searches for a few days.

If your page survives its current positions for the next few weeks; it's bound to stay on for a while. Again.
