Default Online deposit limits come into force in Netherlands

Starting today, online gamblers in the Netherlands may encounter deposit limits when logging into legal online casinos.

This is due to new regulations, the Responsible Gaming Policy Rule and the Gaming Limits and More Conscious Gaming Behaviour Regulation, which require providers to enforce stricter measures aimed at promoting responsible gambling.

    From Casino Nieuws:

What has changed on October 1, 2024?

Net deposit threshold of €700 (or €300 for young adults)
Players who deposit €700+ more in a calendar month than they have cashed out should be temporarily locked out of deposits. The deposit option will be unlocked again on the 1st day of the following calendar month. If the player wants to be able to deposit more than €700 (or €300 for young adults) in a month, the player must provide an income statement to prove that he or she has sufficient financial means to gamble with these amounts.

Mandatory contact moment when setting a monthly deposit limit of €350 or more for new players (or €150 for young adults)
New players who create an account must set a deposit limit. They can determine this themselves, but online casinos are obliged to contact them (by phone or chat) if the set amount is higher than €350 per month (or €150 for young adults up to 24 years old). In this conversation, the player must indicate that he is aware of the risks of gambling and that he runs the risk of losing the set amount.
Existing players who have set a limit above this limit must be made aware of their 'too high limit' when they first register after October 1, 2024. A pop-up about the risks of too high limits will be visible for 30 seconds to make the player aware that the player can also lose the set amount.

I'm assuming that this is a limit per operator rather than any attempt for it to be aggregated across multiple operators.

Ironically, this will drive gamblers with bad impulse control who look to bypass the rules into crypto. They may just start by buying it for depositing on offshore casinos, but then - many will also become amateur shitcoin day traders traders for the best or for the worst. If anyone else here has been a gambler and has traded memecoins or leverage recreationally, lawd knows it is like the fentanyl of gambling compared to slots(and arguably makes it even easier to start gambling money you shouldn't when you start looking at your crypto wallet as a bank account, don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with long term bitcoin holding and stuff, though the memecoin space is playing with fire, like the meth of crypto). The regulations may be well intended, though I think many people with the gambling itch will just find themselves pushed into the deep end of risky finacial decisions even faster.

Funny, the Dutch were one of the first to start talks about licensing, one of the latest in Europe to finally introduce it and the first one the completely destroy the market for gamblers, casinos and affiliates...

You make a solid point—these regulations might just push impulsive gamblers into riskier areas like crypto. Using crypto to gamble on offshore sites can easily turn into day trading meme coins, which is like adding fuel to the fire. Memecoins and leverage trading can be a dangerous rabbit hole, especially when people start treating their crypto wallets like a bankroll for gambling. You're right—it can make it easier to gamble money you shouldn’t.

So, now players will need to provide their income statements to the big brother to prove they can afford to gamble over €700 a month? This seems like a concerning overreach into people's personal privacy, dictating how they should manage their finances. While I understand the intention behind these measures, pushing players to disclose their income might actually drive more of them toward unregulated, black-market casinos where such invasive checks don’t exist. It's a shame..

I understood it was per operator, but I couldn’t open the website to read the full news. Regardless, these measures all seem like the same thing: an invasion of privacy with no real benefit for the individual they claim to be protecting, just more power and information for them.

It is not possible that anything is well intended, when done by retards.

The Dutch market never made me any money. Even 15 years ago, it was not working for sport affiliates.
So hopefully this regulation will make it better like in France, where it is still s***, but thanks crypto slightly smaller s*** than few years ago. Italy is so stupid market, that it works best now in my life with offshore.
The worst outcome for affiliates is regulated and licenced, but not overregulated, market.
