Default Paddy Power cookies & Banners

    Hi Paddy Power,

I have a couple of questions, how long is your cookie ? I heard it was a session cookie is that true ?

How do I get access to more banners ? all I could see are a few Paddy Power "Bet Dash" banners and nothing more.

Please check your message on your internal system.

    Cheers

The cookies are session cookies. Also worth mentioning is that if you bring in a player for sports betting, you won't get paid if/when that player decides to have a run in their casino.

Good luck getting a better selection of banners from them. Their program converts well for us but fortunately we're not relying upon their creatives to drive conversions (we'd starve if that were the case). Would love it if they'd replenish their stock of banners to include those that are not flash based AND if they'd reconsider the whole not paying affiliates for other activities issue.

Hi casinog, our cookies are session based. You should now be able to see banners for all our products in the Media Gallery. Please send me a message here if there's anything else you need.

Shay, please can you PM me your account name so that I can make sure you have access to our full selection of banners. All our flash banners come with backup gifs automatically and we find that the vast majority of our sports affiliates are able to use the flash banners.

Damn that cookie is a bit stingy lol Session cookie went out in the early 2000s.

Any chance you could give affiliates a better cookie even if it were only for 1 week.
I find most people come back within a couple of days.

Thanks for the info Shay & Luke.

The banners are out of date, even the horse racing ones that do have odds for relevant upcoming races then have "Racing 2012" on one of their frames. Struggling to find one without an issue of some sort.

Amazed at the massive variance in the free bets that get offered for PP from affiliate to affiliate, which is also generally not the same as the paddy power free bet it advertises. Could be anything from 20 to 200. It would surely benefit from just sticking to one universal free bet arrangement rather than so many different personalised ones.

The cookie is the big killer though - shame because they have most of the ingredients of a potentially great program.

Regarding the cookie length, this is something that's outside my control but I've passed on your comments.

We offer different free bets depending on the traffic that comes through certain affiliate sites. As standard, sports affiliates get the 50 Free Bet offer. If we agree that a different free bet would make sense for both sides then we're happy to discuss that with affiliates on a case by case basis.

Thebookiesoffers, can you see the flash banners? I checked your account and you should have access to everything. If you can, I'd be interested to hear what you don't like about them. If there's something you think that's missing please let me know.

The racing banners should be updating to say 2013 now, thanks for pointing that out justbookies.

Luke, thanks for that reply. While I appreciate the cookie length may be out of your control in terms of a decision, I know from netrefer that this is a decision for the operator only. So it is the decision of someone at paddy power, not someone at the software company.

If the cookie length was industry standard of say 30 days or so, you would get a lot more traffic from affiliates. While many affiliates will not know about it or the negative ramifications of a session cookie, all affiliates on this site know about it - and most certainly the big ones. I do promote PP but not as hard as I would if the cookie length was reasonable. I want to promote Paddy Power harder because it is a big brand and players are well catered for but it is a two-way street. The session cookie is a cheap trick that is costing PP more than it is gaining PP.

Thank you for updating the racing banners.

Agree with justbookies, cookie is everything. Sometimes more important than a 20% boost in commissions because 20% increase of nothing is nothing.

You would get lots more affiliates pushing you harder if you had a decent cookie.

Exactly, and with offering only a session cookie, anyone that is not currently working with Paddy, and does not already have real estate invested into them are likely better off NOT even considering space.

There are plenty of other more affiliate friendly operators to choose from.

Do you guys have any data on the difference in signups that you're getting with operators depending on their cookie length or how it impacts on your decision to promote an operator that you'd be happy to share? If increasing the cookie length is something that'd make promoting us more attractive then I'll ask for it to be reviewed so the more information I can compile on it's impact the better. You're correct that it's a decision made by Paddy Power as a company but not myself personally so I can't make any promises on it changing - I'm not sure of the reason behind the original decision. Please feel free to drop me an email to luke.cotton@paddypower.com if you'd rather share anything privately. Thanks.

Some suggestions for a good program:

    - Cross product revenue share
    - Fast commission payments
    - Cookie length
    - Self update banners + static banners (eg: brand banners)
    - Comprehensive reports
    - Excellent communication from affiliate managers
    - Transparency

That is the minimum to maintain a attractive affiliate program.

You just need to have some careful with cookie length because cookie stuffing, but nothing you and your team can't catch on the reports...

I think a number of members have made it VERY CLEAR of their reluctance to promote a program that offers only a session cookie.

I'm not sure of the reason behind the original decision.
The decision has nothing to do with being affiliate friendly, just like the decision to not pay on cross-promoting.

Hi universal4, I don't believe that the decision was made based on whether the cookie length would be affiliate friendly or not. It could have been made for any number of reasons which I am not aware of. For that reason, I can't comment as to whether it's something that is likely to change.

Thanks to the couple of people who messaged me with some information. This is now in a queue to be reviewed and I'll update you if it is increased.

Credit to Luke for engaging in this conversation. His life would be easier if he ignored these issues, as many lesser AMs would. Just hope for the benefit of both Paddy Power and its affiliates the right decision is made.

Hi Luke, I have just looked in at the 125x125 ones, I have only 8 available, all static and no flash ones, they are just so basic and hardly set the imagination racing.

In regards to the cookie length, couldn't careless about them to be honest, never have checked and can't see me racing to do it in the future

I agree. Luke's tackling a few of the issues head on and not shying away from them, its shows promise for a better affiliate program (unlike lesser program i.e. Stan James and their blatant rip off outfit who have ruined theirs).

As for cookie length Ive been doing this sort of things for 11 years through networks like commission junction, tradedoubler, DGM, OMG . It makes a massive difference for conversions. Normally I tend not to promote anyone offering session cookies as I know my efforts will be a wasted.

Hi thebookiesoffers - I will see if we can get some improved 125x125 banners for sports - we have tended to focus on the 5 main IAB sizes (including the 120x600 that I can see you're running) where there's a good range of banners. I don't think they would scale down well to that size though unfortunately which is why we are using the more basic banners that keep the offer clear. I'll follow up with you further now by email.

Thanks justbookies and casinog - hopefully we can have a good resolution.

Just adding my voice to the chorus of affiliates that won't work with a program that only offers session cookies.

I have had an account with PP for a very long time, but I just don't promote PP simply because of what I consider to be Affiliate unfriendly T&C's(the cookie issue).

Luke, I don't have any hard data on the difference between session cookies and a longer cookie length... But I know from years of experience that the difference in conversions for the affiliate is HUGE.

    Luke,

The cookie decision is about MONEY and pretending it isn't does NOT change that fact. That alone makes it a decision that affects how affiliate friendly the program is, and if affiliates are NOT part of helping shape those decisions, then that fact makes the affiliate department less affiliate friendly since you have less tendacy to consider affiliates and how your decisions will affect affiliates.
