    Default page rank update?

Fairly new here and was browsing some of the earlier threads. There was mention of a Google Page Rank update. My site is fairly new, does anyone know when the next page rank update takes place? Should I expect to not have a very good page rank from google until this takes place?

Page Rank is updating every quarter. The last visual ( Toolbar ) update occured on the 1st Jan. It is anticipated that a toolbar update is imminent.

PR on the Google toolbar updates roughly once a quarter - doesn't appear to be on a set schedule.

I believe Google has actually said PR updates daily as their bots surf the web - but those changes aren't visible to the public until the quarterly update. It is also unclear how PR affects search results, if it influences it at all.

Just to clarify, if I want to trade links with somebody they will see that I have a page rank of 0 until this update?

I asked in the context that some people will only exhange links with a pr of 4 or better. I would be out of luck until then, correct?

Still figuring all of this link exchange and SEO out, but I appreciate all the great info here.

You are correct that some only exchange links with those that have "visible" PR. (I do not always agree this is a good practice)

When I exchange links with a site I do browse the site and "look" at the PR, but it is not the only factor I base my decision on.

I look at the quality of the site, and whether or not it would be a valuable link for my visitor.

I try to determine if there are any SE penalties.

I also look to see if the home page has been cached, and also a few of the internal pages.

I look at the navigation and make sure it will be followed by spiders, and I look at the link pages to be sure the links there will be followed and that they are not hidden by scripts.

PM me a link and description and I will put a link up for you somewhere.

I am going to do a site redesign by using a template in the next couple of weeks.

Universal4, thank you for the offer I will take you up on it.

What did you mean by the home page being cached? What does that mean and what are the benefits?

I appreciate all the help and feedback.

What I mean by cached, is if you have the Toolbar running, upon visiting the site, you click on the view cached snapshot...to see what google has in it's active cache.

And I just checked yours, and it is dated today, so Google has just updated your site....which also is important for you to watch if per chance you make any minor navigation changes, or like you said, as you prepare a site redesign with a template.

I got your PM and will get back to you when I have a chance to get a link up for you...
