    Default Page Rank Update

Has anyone else noticed that is has been ages since the last PR update? I wonder if the Big G is thinking about scrapping it?

IMO - i think were done with PR. 8 months and nothing - I have never seen them ever take 8 months to do a massive PR update. I would say they are getting rid of it for good!!

I doubt they will scrap it, I just think they won't share the information with the public anymore if anything. To be honest I have never really cared much for PR anyway. My sites have always seemed to perform best when they had very little PR from my experience.

True - maybe your right.. they will keep their own valuation hidden - but simply not do a toolbar update anymore. That makes sense.

I think they should just get rid of the toolbar though! Its useless since its simply not factual or accurate anymore.

Maybe they like it that way though as it keeps people guessing and makes people think that focussing on toolbar PR is more important than the other stuff. This way legitimate sites will rank better and they won't be as concerned with this stuff. Who knows though.

I really hope that PageRank (at least as something visually observable through a toolbar or elsewhere) will be scraped. For far too long this "objective" way to judge the relevance of a page has ment far too much for far to many webmasters.

There wouldn't be any announcement to make as everything should stay a secret for them to keep.

Seriously though, I think there's still the usual periodical PR update. However, I think the conditions for a high PR page have been set so high now that it is hard for an ordinary link building campaign to deserve it. I just got a PR 0 from unranked for one of my newly established blogs lately. And this has been the usual thing everytime I start a new blog since the second quarter this year regardless of how many backlinks I gather for them to level up.

Yes it is nearly 9 months since the last update, which is the longest ever, is it? They will probably make an announcement at some point, this is Matt Cutts' job after all. My guess, and this is just my guess, there will be an update in the near future, maybe January.

I do not think that they will discard toolbar pr because when they created it, they were fully aware that this would be subject to manipulations and misinterpretations. But they decided that the advantages or providing this delayed information to webmasters surpassed the cons. And did that change? But they may update less often or less predictably in order to avoid too much abuses?

I have given up on Google. If it comes it comes but it will be interesting to see how link traders start to value sites in the future.

For instance I have a site with over 20,000 legitimate backlinks but without a PR update is it worth nothing?

My google toolbar stopped working completely recently. Not sure if it's related to PR in anyway, but thought it worth mentioning!..

As someone who tries to compete in the SEO world I hope that the PR toolbar stays - it's entertaining watching people waste their days transixed on it!

What if the thousands of people who still believe it important start focusing on real SEO work?!!

On a serious note, patmcluk has a good point - it would revolutionise how traders buy & sell links and could harm a lot of webmasters. I would imagine that something like MozRank would be used as a general site credibility tool.

Either Google makes an update at some point (in the not too distant future) or they will make an announcement. Given that Matt Cutts attends many SEO conferences, he will be asked the question and he will give an answer. Again, just a guess.

    Default Google PR update

Google recently updated the PR partially. I am sure it was not full update. I am saying this because I am seeing backlinks forum which was PR4 now PR3. This makes to wonder that Google partially updated it's PR system.

I agree that if Google is not going to update the page rank, then it should be removed from the toolbar.

I have also heard that from a different forum. Some people are saying that the PR did update on some sites. And if a site was dropped domain registration and lost its PR, them sites have also been given their PR back.

I do not think that Google will scrap PR altogether, they may hide it so only they can see the data, or they may be even re-coding it altogether and starting from the ground up to make an even better measurement than how the previous PR worked.

Really, Google has not had a PR update in over 8 months. So, ideally it should happen in the nearest future. Probably, it can be expected as a pleasant surprise for Christmas
