Hi guys, are you looking forward to the 21st of April or are you scared? We try to prepare everything for this date and I was wondering if it is enough to be ready on the 20th for example or do you think we should be ready some time earlier to ensure that G has some time to crawl the new site some days before the update takes place?

It wont matter too much as long as it gets done, It will be a roll out and even non mobile pages that become mobile friendly later will regain rankings, it's more for those who have held the status quo and refuse to change

Makes sense to me. Anyway we will do our best to be ready before the update rolls out. As far as we can believe all the reports it will be the biggest update ever. I will watch the rankings closely

Very new question - is this a case of making sure of the key attributes (responsive pages, load speed etc etc) or are you actually looking at keywords and such ?

ok thanks now I got it. We make our website responsive because this is what G wants to see after the 21st of April. But we have a very full schedule so I really hope that we can get things done until next week but we are on a good way so I think it should be possible. The update includes a full optimization of the website so a major project we are going through at the moment. Let´s see how it goes I really hope it pays off it was a mass of work.

We've been scrambling to convert older non-mobile friendly sites to a new responsive format, but there's no way they'll all get done in time so we've had to prioritise the higher value/traffic ones.

From what I've seen it takes about 2-3 days before the 'mobile-friendly' tag appears in the search results, which I'm guessing also means it takes a couple of days for google to figure out your sites now mobile friendly. I'd definitely try and get it converted a few days ahead of time if you can...

We have enough to do with our most important website but it is still a challenge because we combined it with a complete relaunch so interesting times are coming up. The update AND a complete new website. Looking forward and scared at the same time but I guess we have done everything right and it will work out well.

I`m pretty sure it would be better for it to be mostly ready as early as possible. It depends. If you wait to launch the whole thing at once, I reckon it would be better to launch it as fast as possible, even if it`s not 100% ready. If you`re working "live" as you go, you are already ahead of the curve and I think you are in a good spot, no big hurry.

Now, to rant.

I`m waiting for it with sadness and disgust. I think Google is not ready for this and they will **** everything up.

The measures they want us to take in order to make websites "mobile friendly" are just laughable. I improved my mobile score from 59 to 75 and the website became basically unusable for both mobile and dekstop. I decided to screw this update. A responsive website can be much worse than a non-responsive website. Some websites are so nice, fast and easy to read on current mobile devices, but they are "not optimized". And you can`t "optimize" them without actually screwing them up.

If I lose my rankings, I will consider this to be just another step taken by Google to ruin quality content against so called optimized content. My humble opinion is that they try to do the right thing, but they are going ahead of themselves with projects they are not ready for. I`m trying to focus more and more on direct visitors and KEEPING the new visitors I get, as opposed to being obsessed with Google.

On an e-commerce romanian website of mine I have a responsive design, great mobile score, but I swear to god it`s so much harder to use than if it were a desktop version. And SO much harder to sell.

Of course, others will feel I`m talking bollocks and surely for some people things are actually good. But for others, the above points are valid.

All in all mobile will kill this industry anyway as far as I`m concerned, so, as I said, I`m waiting for it with sadness.

You are absolutely right that G is still using some ranking factors that have nothing to do with quality.

I take the chance to ask again in this thread about automated content and rankings.

I would be able to create high value betting sub pages for specific matches with stats, odds and much more.
I have the opportunity to add text to these sites but I can also create such sites without written text and only with automated content.

My question is when those pages have a lot of information but all of them is automated content like stats, odds, tables and other useful information.
Would it make sense to send those pages to the index?

I see many pages rank with much lower quality but I am scared that G can see this as low content.
I am convinced that this is high quality content but I have no idea what G says about it.

If you don`t get any clear cut expert answer, can`t you try and build a website specifically to test this?

My opinion is that it won`t hurt you. This seems to be the trend among many top websites, crappy automated content with no value. If you have real info as you say, all the better. But I am not an expert in this regard.

My site is not responsive/mobile friendly yet and I don't think it will be anytime soon.
I want to wait until its rolled out and see what will happen by that time.

Hi Rostick, good point. I think I will do it this way. I will create 4-5 sub pages with those information to see if they rank and how they rank. If they rank this could be a major improvement for my site but I don´t wan´t to risk anything with G. But first of all let´s wait for the 21st to see the impact of this update. We are still not ready so a lot to do for the next days.

It'll be interesting to see how much the serps will change. Most of my sites are mobile friendly, so I'm not expecting much of a change myself.

Then you can expect even more changes because the non-responsive sites will drop in rankings but it depends on your current rankings and if there are non-responsive listed before your site then you have a good chance to improve.
