Found this thread late but i took a big hit on my serps around March 13th, my main terms dropped significantly, not sure what could of triggered it but I hope to work my way back up. Did anybody else see a big hit in mid march?

march 13 was around the time the panda roll out came out. Now the panda is "in hiding" I heard. They are not going to disclose when they are running the roll out. The penguin I read it going to come out soon.

Can anyone show me one gambling site? Lets say one poker site that was ranked huge before panda/penguin and then got hit and ever made it out?
I am thinking once your hit that is it - gone!

Alexcruncha - Thank you so much for sharing your ideas and experience. I really appreciate the time you spent here and giving examples. I for one after reading your post felt a little more optimistic about trying to get out of Panda/Penguin Filters. I had at least 50 page 1 money terms a couple of years ago and over the course of 6 months lost 90% of all my income. I spent thousands buying new content and doing different things and yet the site/s continued to drop more drastically to the point I had 1 site normally a 300-400 deposits a month site drop to ZERO. I am going to try and make some changes based on your posts and hope I get out of oblivion.

    Thanks so much

I am glad you liked what I shared. Wow 300-400 depositors a month are big numbers (for me at least) and to get those figures and drop to zero I am guessing that you were doing a lot of stuff Google didnt like. I definitely think you should research Panda and Penguin in depth and search for methods to recover over and above what I have posted. If you check out the other post I started I have just put a reply with links at the bottom to posts that discuss Panda recovery in some depth... you will probably want to look for more about Penguin too.

A tip I got from an SEO is to go back in Google Analytics (or whatever analytics you use) and check what the dates of your traffic drop were and match them up to the Google Algorithm Change History that can be found here on SEOMoz. Then you will know exactly what update you need to recover from.

Thanks for this information. I had been looking everywhere and although I had read reports saying that there would be a Panda update around that time, there were no confirmed dates.

One of my sites was slammed on March 13th, Google traffic completely decimated. I'm talking single figures here. It had been caught up in Panda updates before, and always came back by itself, after the first time it got hit I never did anything (the site is clean enough). It was caught in the "too many ads above the fold update" too on October 9th 2012, and made a partial recovery some weeks later until 13th March. I had started to think that since it didn't coincide with the dates suggested for Panda #25 (15th-18th March) that it must have been a penalty of some sort. Unless it's some weird coincidence then it's down to another update so at least I'm hopeful now it may bounce back.

This year has been an absolute nightmare with Google. I had hired a SEO agency to do off-site SEO for me as I didn't have time to do it myself and wanted to take care of the sites and the business. With this last update I decided to get rid of them as they have not been able to stabilise traffic despite good link building.

I think links don't necessarily generate trust with Google or improve rankings. But not having links will not make you rank for anything remotely competitive.

Looking at the serps things have changed a lot. In the UK serps for bingo related terms at least there only seem to be one or two big affiliates, the rest is actual brands with the keyword variation in the URL, and even some exact match domains despite there being an EMD update to remove low quality ones from the SERPS...looks like that wasn't particularly effective as they are still rife. I'm not sure what these updates mean for us affiliates, but I think they have given the brands and the bigger affiliates the edge and made it almost impossible to compete. Maybe it's game over?
