I've played him in cash games a number of times back in the day on UB. In the high stakes fixed limit holdem games, 50/100 - 300-600. Needless to say, the games formed around him when he sat down at a table. And he ran his mouth just like he does on TV. Good times those were.

Granted, tournament poker is a different game.

Live tournament poker is the easiest (poker players would say, "softest") form of poker in existence. Phil is good at exploiting Joe Six-Pack type players. He doesn't have the skill set to play in cash games of any real consequence.

He's one of those people that thinks there's no such thing as bad press. And he was trying to promote some new pineapple poker site so... I'm sure this was his ploy to get hits.
