If you're asking this, because you don't have a forum yet, you should perhaps first ask, do I really, really, really need a forum. It's a lot of work to maintain, especially if you want to keep a high quality standard, and when you're a 'one man show' so to speak.


To answer your question the last forum I used to run was a forum based on Wordpress, and I liked it. Mainly because I know my way around wordpress blindfolded on my back stuck in a cave underwater if I have to. However, due to the 'high maintenance' and insane amounts of work involved with keeping a forum up to standards made me decide to get rid of it. To add to my resume here, In the past, I have worked with and owned / managed forums the same as that you are on now, but they involve a lot of knowledge and hard work as well.

If I had to choose: I would go for Wordpress based forums.

BTW, I just visited your apostas site, and are you aware that Google penalizes sites with popups like the one you have on opening? Second, it is seen as 'cookie-ing' a visitor, which is also 'frowned upon'.

By visiting your site, I am now cookied with bet.pt. Or whatever the intrusive popup was. If I were you, I would change my approach a bit.

Yes, simply do not use the opening pop up. (Isn't that the sneaky popup plugin?) No matter if it is or not: Take that one out asap. Only use the 'exit popup' one. That should be just fine. Also think twice about wanting to 'cookie' a visitor too much. (If that was / is your approach)..

You can make as many exit ones as you want. On every review, post page and so on. Exit ones are fine.
