About LinkBacksLondon's Court of Appeal has ruled that poker is officially a game of chance. A private club owner had appealed an earlier ruling, but this one is final: You cannot run a poker club in England unless you have a gaming license.
He had been trying to prove that poker is a game of skill like chess or bridge. Tournaments for these games can be organized by people who do not possess a gaming license, and they can profit from those tournaments. Poker, however, is officially off limits.
