Tied hands in Texas hold'em

I've played a fair bit of poker in the past, but I've never played Texas hold'em. I thought it was time I had a go, so I bought an interactive DVD, and I think it's cheating me.

There were two hands which resulted in tie. In had a straight on the table, so that was the best hand that each of us could make - it told me I had lost. The other one was a full of 7s and 4s - 3 7s and a 4 on the table, and we each had a second 4 to make a full house. I lost that one as well. So what happens with a tie? Is it a split pot? Or does the one who calls lose?

Sounds like the software is corrupt.
Ties always end in a split pot.
Are you sure the computer didn't have a higher straight and a bigger full house?

It was an interactive DVD, so the software is probably not too smart. There's no cash involved, so it's not really a big deal - I just wanted to clarify the rules as I've played games with both of the deciders I mentioned in the past.

In the case of the straight, it was the cards on the table that made the hands, the hidden cards didn't make any difference in either case.

If that were an online room, people would run for the hills, and not use them. I'd let them know of their errors, so that they fix it up right, and maybe consider using another tutorial service (that understands the rules !!!).

I thought it should result in a split pot, so thanks for confirming that I was correct. I got the DVD in the local £1 shop, so maybe this is why it was discounted so heavily.

Like the others say, it should be a split pot.

If i needed to test some Texas Holdem without using real money, i would just try the real poker rooms and play with fun/play money it´s free.

Just pick a room signup and play for fun, the play money tables at real sites don´t have errors and mistakes in the software.

I don't have active-x enabled on this PC, but I guess I should sort one out and try the poker rooms that I promote.

btw - the guy might cheat, but he isn't a very good player. I've just taken $800 off him with a Jack high hand, and that was on the table - I only had a 4 and a 5 in my hand. The chicken folded.

I can remember playing a variation called "spit in the ocean" - is that still played? Each player is dealt 4 cards, and then one card is turned face up on the table. That card is included in everybody's hands.

Yes, i think you should try some of the rooms you promote.

I have never heard of "spit in the ocean" , the only game i know with 4 hole crads is omaha, but thats not it because there is 5 cards on the table in omaha.
