From my understanding, in the UK it's illegal to promote non-UK licensed brands that accept UK players to anyone in the UK. How you pitch the brands and who you target them to is irrelevant, if a limey can click a link on your site and sign up to a non-UK licensed site then that would be considered illegal.

To be compliant you have to either geotarget the site so that no non-UK licensed brand content is shown to UK players at all, or block UK players.

I do not remember the specific law, but the Gambling Commission in this state are like gods. They can pretty much do whatever the hell they want, and then you have to prove you're innocent. Come to think of it, most of the laws in this state work that way.

What I do remember is that it was considered "bookmaking" to profit from "illegal" online gambling... even if I promoted to another state or country. Even if the casino was in Costa Rica and the license in Antigua and the player in Brazil. They didn't give to $H!Ts about making sense. It didn't have to make sense, because it was the law.

Providing a hyperlink to a real money gambling site was also made illegal, mostly due to the work of Tribal Gaming interests in the state who (ignorantly) believed it was cannibalizing their business and profits. SO when the Native American gaming interests say jump, the politicians in this state say how high.

The penalty for these offenses was a First Degree Felony, just like **** and murder. The minimal sentence was 5 years... up to 20... but most likely they would have just thrown me in jail until I bonded out. Then ruined me financially, tore my family apart, forced me to take a deal, fined me thousands of dollars, and given me a criminal record.

In the end, the loss of that income tore my family apart anyways. All that happened in 2006, and I began working for Casino City in late 2008. By then, the damage to my marriage was done, and the lifestyle I had as an affiliate never came back. Neither did my wife. She swore to love me till death and in sickness, but she skipped the poorness part.

Now I live alone and make videos. I won't complain, because I'm not in prison and I am comfortable. But my ex-wife is remarried to someone who makes good money. She took my children with her, and they all hate their father. I pay child support and have never missed a payment. But hey, at least I have a cat to keep me company.

Think I'll go have a drink now.... or maybe a hit.

The Hoteliers association (literally 10's of thousands of AU pub with pokies), not to mention the land based casinos association, they all have a huge stake in Australian Gambling. Just like the Tribes you speak of, these Aussie groups wield a mighty power too
