Default Possibly selling Forex/CFD trading site: cfdspy.com

Hi all, as title states Im thinking about selling CFDSpy.com.

Firstly, this is not Poker/casino related I know. But the industry does certianly run along the same lines and has the same potential (if not better) for revenue, either through REV SHARE | CPA or straight advertising.

The site is fairly old, has good serps (could be better of course) and tons of potential.

I have basically stopped working on this site as I have many other projects (offline and on) that are taking up all my time and therefore have decided to explore selling it.

I wont bother giving a huge sales pitch here, but will happily answer any questions you may have.

The reason I decided to post this here is because I have seen many sites for sale and indeed sold, which imho really do not warrant the price asked or price paid.

The site is fairly deep, has a main site and a blog. We recieve solicitations reguarly - generally around 1 a day asking for partnerships/advertising options.

The advertising is controlled by an OpenX backend which i sre as you know can be geographically targeted and all that nice stuff.

Ok I will cut this off here and keep an eye on this thread to answer any questions you may have.

    Cheers

    Phil

    Hi Marc,

I dont have the required number of posts to send Private messages seemingly so will put some more info here:

    Age of domain: 3-4 Years.
    Niche: CFD and Forex trading
    Income: Income is made via:

Straight Advertising: Varys month by month from $500-$1500 (with little work put into it, ie answering email requests and setting up deals)
Affiliate relationships: Varys month by Month: from $500-$2500
Text Links: The odd one off charge of around $250 (I always took the stance of not selling text links, mainly to appease google) but have sold a couple in the past. Not something id reccomend though for the stated reason.

Content: we have many content providers and many more requests (daily). Which I have not really utilised, this is for the blog of course. It is set up to allow authors to log in and post (pending owners approval - or not if thats what one would prefer). Many of these providers send articles to us via email though, and honestly thats where they stay -)

Main site content is basically routed around Brokers, listings, comparisons, overviews etc etc.

We started to charge a rolling monthly cost for being listed (overview, comparisons, listings). I took the stance of offering package deals, ie take 6 Months (min) banner placments etc etc and get a free listing. You can of course choose your own stance/methods.

The thing with this site is it is basically an untapped resource. When I first created it, I had in mind for its pure revenue to be straight advertising. I added comparisons and listings etc etc to drive traffic first, and then push for advertising costs for banners and such.

85% of the brokers listed do not have an affiliate relationship set up for that very reason, and because I havent made that essential step.

If someone was to put some work in setting up relationships/or costs for all listed brokers, removing those that dont comply (in all honesty each and every broker will set up a partnership on CPA/REV SHARE, not all will pay direct advertising) and reaching out to others, then monthly revenue would be much higher. Affiliate relationships require housekeeping, and this is something I did not and do not really have time to deal with. Now of course this is opinion, i know it to be true, but your clever enough to know thats what im meant to say, so do your own research and build your own opinions.

As I mentioned briefly, we recieve solicitations from brokers reguarly, for example; 3 yesterday. 2 of which I will be setting up a monthly advertising package for. The other who stated they will be getting back to us. I can provide email threads as proof of these etc etc but dont think I should be posting them on here (for obvious reasons).

There are 100s if not 1000's of brokers out there. Most of which with mult million $ advertising budgets and departments looking to spend. The market is there, its just utilising it.

Im not sure what else to cover here. At present the only work I do is dealing with emails and setting up relationships. Its a put it in to get it back sort of thing, you can roll along as I have being extremely unproductive and putting about 10 Mins in a day on emails. Or you can go for broke.

Please feel free (Marc) and any others to post specifc questions here so i can get on track and answer them. Even if I dont sell this site via here (which is probably likely considering its niche) I will in all likelyhood use the experience and info to sell it via a more general platform.

You may of noticed im a waffler, so be direct if you want the info.

    Phil

    Default A question

    Hi.

Where do you get your content from? Is it original?

Also please can you provide some info about your link building? How many links do you have and how diverse are they. For example are they coming from a lot of different websites?

It looks like a good website.

    Thanks

Also please can you verify ownership of the site by inserting some code into the header section of the homepage. Something like verified for gpwa.

    thanks

    Default hi wejwebb

    hi wejwebb,

    To answer your questions;

The links are diverse, coming from many, many different related websites. There was a long a steady campaign of SEO and link building awhile back. All links are related. Please feel free to run some link analysis etc on the site. Yahoo currently lists 2000+ links in its index. Im not positive of the actual number but its pretty high, certainly varied, but always related. Some PR6+ sites with good authority in the industry etc etc

The site is heavily indexed and all new content generally gets indexed fast with good SERPS. Run a few CFD variations or trading broker variations and you can see for yourself in google.

We recieve solicitations for link swops more reguarly than id care to think and stopped dealing with these a while back.

In terms of content: The site is broken into a main site and a blog.

Main site: all content is of course unique to CFDSpy

Blog/news: Some content is unique (custom written by us) and some comes through sub authors, these sub authors, who release analysis (techincal and fundamental) and such will almost certainly be releasing the same analysis elsewhere (which im sure as you know is common practice). The blog is set up to allow authors to log in and submit content themselves (or submit via email if we allow), which go live pending our (editors) approval. So whilst the majority of the blog; listings, glossary and such is unique the analysis sections are a mixed bag.

As with the links we recieve regular solicitations from content providers and content partners wanting to release articles and news on CFDSpys blog section. Mostly as business partners but sometimes paid (which we always took the stance of rejecting).

Here is a link for the verification you requested: http://www.cfdspy.com/gpwa.php

Please let me know if you would like any further information at all.

As a side note, I have just listed this on an auction site with a 6 day length. However if you are interested in buying it, then doing it off auction would save us both money (I say both because its listed with a pay half each for commission cost, which will be $497)

Anyway im hear if you need anything, or you can catch me at phil@cfdspy.com

    Have a good one.

pdate: we also rank top page for direct broker name searches. Often times only beaten by the actual broker themseleves. This is part of what I mean when I say untapped resource. We rank up there for Brokers who we havent even bothered to set up a relationship with. I will add these here as I start to run through them:
    GFT
    GFT Forex
    mg forex

Also broker name review and broker name promotion (if included on the site) we rank right up there.
